I already have a divided turbine side I just need a divided manifold or I will have to go with the bep housing also.

More done once again, This time it was brass shifter cable bushings and aluminum shifter base bushings for my shep trans!

Body work is nearly done. I ran out of galzing putty and have one spot left on the quarter panel. I need to finish the 3rd brake light smoothing and sand down the hood/fenders.

Still on the hunt for those pesky Twistie style side skirts.

Between the brass and aluminum shifter bushings there is ZERO play in the shifting. It feels so scary and direct through the stage 4 trans

More updates again!!! Had today(Sunday) off work so i went and got more body putty since i ran out :( Went with the premium bondo this time...and MY GOD what a difference. I wish i would have went with the green slime sooner.

I also got the transfer case pulled off, started the putty for the 3rd brake light blending, and FINALLY FOUND OUT WHAT SHEP TRANS I HAVE!!!!

/......MORE ON THE TRANS LATER.

STM Fuel pump rewire kit came in, very nice quality piece.

Me doing some rough sanding(had ALOT of extra LOL)
SAM_0825.jpg

Its getting there, and a new body filler!!! this stuff is awesome!
SAM_0827.jpg

SAM_0828.jpg

3rd Brake light body filler, it was not hard enough for me to start sanding so I left it overnight. Ill get it tomorrow!

So anyways about the trans....I was told it was shep stage 4, then stage 3, stock with double synchros, etc., but at the time i did not know about the stamps that they do for what stage it is....So after months of being dragged around by friends and previous owners of the car, I finally managed to get through to Shep Racing. They informed me that they did not keep records of serial numbers but they do stamp the trans case...So after hunting for 2 days(not a whole 2 days), and 6 cans of brake parts cleaner and purple power...I found it. Stamped 3742. Come to find out the transmission is a stage 3 with SOME components of a stage 4. Such as doubled welded synchros, upgraded shaft bearings, and supposed gearing work( I would assume Evo 3 first and fifth, but cannot be certain).

Im hoping to get the trans pulled tomorrow but it looks grim, got a ton of errands to run including machine shop. Ill be seeing if taking my 6 bolt block .030 over will get rid of the scores in the cylinder wall.

As always, comments, concerns, suggestions, SUGGESTIONS are welcome. :thumb:

So I gave shep transmissions a call today with my 4 digit stamp(3742) and asked if by chance I could get some info...Well here goes:

After being told it was a stage 4 for the longest time, I can finally call everyone one of those people lairs.

The trans consists of:

Stage 3 shep transmission
4 Spider Center Diff
REM ISF Process on the gears
New Bearings
New synchronizers
New input shaft.

The trans DOES NOT have a full spline shaft like everyone said

So a big tip-of-the hat to Shep Transmissions for being more than willing to fill me in :thumb:

Just popping back in for an update, havent been doing much lately due to work.

But I picked up a Tial 50mm BOV(old school tial), the body work is finished, it just needs paint.

Also scored an engine hoist and 10ton press for $200 total!!!
Im working on getting the engine/trans out of the car now.

My huge concerns are the motor and the 6bolt bottom end I got from a friend.
From my understanding a 6bolt motor uses the thrust washers, well mine has thrust bearings....all one piece. So I cancelled the manley pistons(well delayed them) and Ill be getting my block back tomorrow and running the serial # to find out just what year it is.

Ill be picking up my interior sometime this week so that should be one more thing taken care of, Ill also be ordering the following:

-Full -6an tank to line and return kit(not sure where to order from)
-camber kit for the front(not sure whether to use adjustable bushings or get a new adjustable arm)
-washer/bolt trick for rear camber
-BEP .55 A/R STAINLESS turbine housing
-Aeromotive AFPR
-catch can(gotta find a nice setup)

After that its tuning software. I've debated between DSM link(ive got a 1995) or swapping over to the Evo ecu and using ECM Flash.

Ill be sure to get some pics tomorrow, if anyone has ANY tips, tricks, parts reviews, suggestions, or comments please feel free to post them up or PM me!

I absolutely hate those types of wings honestly...but if you like it my opinion shouldn't sway your decision since you will be the one looking at the car every day :)

Keep up the good work. I saw on Jus's thread that you decided not to go twin scroll. I made the same decision last week but a buddy of mine told me he would build me a divided T3 manifold so I'm back to staying TS.

Go wingless! Looking good so far... but on a side note, be careful just filling holes with mud... the filler may shrink and make them appear later on... you may be able to see them in the sun on a hot day, oddly enough. Mud and metal do funny things sometime. I would have welded them, or found someone that could...

I love that GTR style wing, but im still deciding. I love the look of the Panda 2G when its wingless, so its gonna be a last second decision before paint haha.

Yeah I cant find a manifold for less than 800 and to me, its just not worth it ATM. I have sooo much to do with this car that a manifold can wait for a while LOL.

I backed the bondo with fiberglass patches and let them get completely hardened before spreading the mud. Ill also be applying a thin layer of resin on top of the bondo holes just to reinforce it.

Got some more stuff tidied up. Decided to go wingless after all LOL.

My 255 HP is finally here along with the VRSF short route kit. Downside is, the VRSF kit was damaged during shipping, so I had to send it back and wait the 6 weeks for another one. Damn you FedEx.

Thanks bro. And good luck with yours!

My progress is slow, I only get about 4-6 hours a week to work on it. Im hoping to have the fuel pump rewired this week. Hopefully Next week I can get the old crankwalked 7bolt out of there along with the shep trans and clean/degrease the engine bay. After that its really just ordering parts.

Got the fuel pump rewired tuesday, was actually easy once I figured out what wire to cut and where to connect it.

I wound up cutting the wires closer to the door rather than underneath the rear seats. I did this because:

1: that is open to the elements. if you look, you can actually see the outside. I didnt want rain/snow getting into the relay or electrical connections.

2: its a pain in the ass and not enough wire left if you tend to **** up electrical things like I do.

3: its closer to the ground and there are no wires running under the seat that were not already there.

Its still the same basic fuel pump rewire, just in a different location. Same wires were cut and connected like STM and several others have directed.

sanded down a spot behind the passenger seat belt. I used a copper penny and bolt/nut to guarantee it was grounded good and stayed there and not vibrate loose.
IMG_20120717_211513.jpg

Final result. Complete and out of the way. No pesky wires under the silver shield. everything is sealed inside the car.

Please feel free to give me some feedback on my soldering work. Ive not soldered anything since 2008, aside from converting a honda ecu last year.

Soon to come items:

AEM UEGO wideband
Tripod A pillar mount
Exhaust manifold stud kit
full engine dowel set for the engine build
255HP install

See page 2. High rise wing is gone and I am wingless.

The only talon body parts i have is the front bumper. I still have no side skirts :( and the rear bumper is off of a 95(which is what the car is). I want the full 2gb body style with the door skins and all. Just hard as hell to find any at a reasonable price

Getting a bit more done each day, got the old sound deadener ripped out and the new eastwood stuff installed(ran out so the drivers side is not finished.

CHECKMATE!!!

Pulled out from under the car and separated

Shep Stage 3 along with a blown axle cup.

FIRST AMAZEMENT.

Someone wanted their 7bolt to be a 6 bolt so badly....they only put 6 bolts in the flywheel.....
SAM_1085.jpg

After 15 minutes..
SAM_1088.jpg

These were the rings I found on one of the pistons, they had gotten folded over and were not even in their seat. Scored the living hell out of the cylinder wall. Pistons were ok though

INTERIOR. Car is actually starting to look like a car again.

Taped up all of my seams so it would not stick to carpet/rear seats

Put in plenty of padding on top of the eastwood style dynamat

Got alot accomplished in two days of work. Now that the motor and trans are out I can finally pull the car outside and start sandblasting and cleaning the engine bay.

Just for giggles, this is how bad the motor walked. Not horrendous, but still crappy

very nice man its funny your first exterior pics look exactly like my talon tsi FWD i just purchased ( trans work synchros etc 6 puck fidanza flywheel 1995 110000 original miles etc greddy 18g turbo running 26 lbs forged pistons no stuts or anything yet all gaskets are upgraded ECMLINK v3 custom catback o2 dumb tubular headers stainless dp etc)
anyways im loving what your doing i was going to sell my first dsm but now im quite inclined to keep the talon its actually not too bad just needs an ac dropped in and has a HORRIBLE boost leak i cant seem to find.

LOVIN IT BRO!

MANK

Thanks guys!

Im constantly trying to convince myself that its all worth it. Ive had to replace everything from the interior to all bushings/motor mounts...etc.

This car literally had ZERO regular maintenance done. Every single bushing is blown, motor mounts are trashed. The car was slammed and had no toe/camber adjustment. It is still on the stock ECU. The previous owner just slapped the E316g on there with stock everything and ran it with a MBC....Didnt tune it at all.

Im already almost 4K into it, and have another 3-4K to go....Its kinda depressing TBO especially when it sits so much.

My biggest issue though is the wiring harness.....I have so many broken connections and wires that were just twisted together and not soldered.

Keep up the good work man! Don't give up! I was overwhelmed and ended up parting out my 1g project and now im kicking myself in the nads for it. It will be worth it in the end!

Why does everyone keep posting about the high rise? LOL

I am wingless as said in page 2 I believe.

Not alot has gotten done lately, gonna start ordering suspension parts, thought about new subframe bushings but they may not be needed.

Figured I would pop in for a quick update. Ive been lurking more lately instead of posting.

Some small amount of work is being done on the car, not as much as I would hope.

Got my new front lateral arms and tie rod ends installed today. Still need to order the lower control arms and new dust shields.

I ordered my Wideband only to figure out that it is not recommended with DSM link, So I have to ditch the AEM and pick up an innovative.

Also, the front subframe bushings were still in very good condition, so they are going to be left in for a while.

Ill try to get some pics up sometime this week. Im hoping to have my camber kit and other odds and ends ordered.
