Ok i think i may of messed up. I have been looking for a 2g head for about a week, well i thought i found one and i sent my girlfriend up to denver to get it. I had to work so i couldnt go. Well when she got home i was off work and i could tell right away its a 1g head. Well my question is how do i get my 2g intake to fit, the intake ports on the head are bigger. Do i just us a 2g gasket?

Find a different head or a different intake manifold and a 1g intake gasket. Don't do the job half way... Also, when buying a used head you'll want to check the head surface for flatness, make sure the valves seat... make sure you're not throwing a bad head on your car otherwise you'll be in the same situation you are in now soon after getting the car back together.

The 2g head's ports arnt even close to matching. Dont half ass. Buy the proper manifold or buy a new head.

Your best bet is to just go with the 1g intake manifold..You can buy one for about 40 bucks plus shipping..Screw getting the 2g head just buy the 1g intake manifold..You should also get a 1g TB while you looking for parts, just a thought..

what would be the benifit of getting a 1g intake and TB? Because i can just find a head, ### i already have a intake and TB and every thing for a 2g? im not trying to do a converison unless i have to. Plus im not looking to spend anymore money.

The 2g tb is a 50mm, and the 1g is a 60..Also the 2g intake manifold input is 50mm, and the 1g is again 60mm..The 1g tb and intake manifolds are stock bolt on upgrades for 2g owners..

You know I've seen alot of that going on too..The reason they go 6 bolt bottom end is because the 6 bolts are supposed to be the stronger engines..It's been said that the stock 6 bolt crank will handle 500 hp, but I'm sure people have beat those numbers..But on the other hand I'm sure sumone, sumwhere has also beat that with a stock 7 bolt crank..So to answer your question I don't know why they go that route..It could be that they bought the 6 bolt block, and had the 2g head and intake so they decided to go with that..

If sumone more experianced with 2g heads can actually tell us why they go with the 2g head and intake, please feel free to hop in and inform both of us..

It's due to a better head design and higher air velocity. The 2g head design is setup so that the airflow is on a straighter path directly to the valves. The 1g head design, while having more flow, is designed in a way that the airflow needs to turn down into the valves (not as efficient).

So would it be better for me to just try and find a 2g head, and ditch this 1g? if i have to keep looking i will. If i cant find a 2g head, how can i make the 1g head work with a 2g intake? or is that not possible

You already have a 1g head. If it checks out fine by a machine shop I would just find a 1g manifold. It'll be cheaper overall and to be honest you won't exactly notice a difference. Your low end torque might butt dyno a hair lower but that's it.

You could but it's a restriction as the 1g TB is bigger. In all honestly, disregard what I said about keeping the 1g head. Just find a good 2g head. It will be less of a head ache for you.

So i got the car put back together, and would bad gas make it kinda run but then cut off? it starts but idles really horrible, and you can rev the engine and its fine, but then it will cut off. and ideals? im thinking its bad gas ### the car has been sitting since june last year.

i havent drained the tank, so it has the old gas from when it was sitting, i am going to add some heet to it today and some fuel stabilizer aswell. ### it has over half a tank in it

Well i found the reason of why it was idling rough. I did a compression test, and cylinder 2 had no compression. Cylinder 1 had 90, cylinder 3 had 135, and cylinder 4 had 160. So i installed the head gasket wrong which i kinda figured when i torqed it down like 4 different times ### i couldnt find the proper torqe specs. I did find them. So im off to tear the head off again and redue the head gasket with a new one.

You might want to check that the valves in the head you just got aren't leaking. If you didn't have compression problems before the new head, then thats where I would start.
