2g fwd CV axle install tips

Anyone got an tips for installing the axles on a FWD? i have them about 90% of the way in but they have not clicked and there is about a 10mm gap between the ends and the axle seals and i just can't get them to go the rest of the way in.

Greased them up with some moly lube and been trying to tap them with a hammer. but I can't really find a good spot to put my prybar.

I always put the wheel side of the axle in the hub and thread the axle nut on a little bit; at the same time, I've placed the transmission side of the axle in the transmission so as to guide it. Then I "slam" the axle/knuckle assembly towards the transmission. Seems to work pretty well.

Just dont hit the end with a hammer like me... it will fcuk the threads

I just checked the axles and it looks like the reason they are not clicking into place is the c-clips are missing on both axles some how.

The gap is about 2mm not 10. I drastically over estimated. I think if I get the clip and tap them in a bit they should be fine.

Anyone know what size the c clips are?

And i thought i had my own specail way of doing it. Nice to know other poeple put it in the knuckle and slam it home

Yea i have to do my front driver side. Its ripped completely around. But mines a 93. Should be too much different.

So anyone know a part number or size for the axle snap ring/circlip?

And not a mitsubishi part number or I won't get the damn things until hell freezes over and auburn wins another national football championship. The damn dealership called me today to finally do a ####ing recall on a car I had for over a year, and sold 2 weeks ago.

The c-clip is a 29mm. The Mitsubishi part number is MB620144 -- if you have an O'Reilly's around you, you can call them up and ask them for a cross reference. I tried cross referencing with NAPA and they do not have a comparable piece. Remember you can always use one of the vendors on this site if needed.

As far as removal goes i use an impact gun to take off the axle nut and then use an air hammer with a pointed chisel and air hammer it right out, comes out of the hub like nothing. When you put the new one in, i put it in the tranny first then move the knuckle to the side and get it in the splines. Once the threads are sticking through the hub enough i thread on the nut and hit it with the impact gun and it pulls the axle through while tightening.
