After some prying I was able to remove my driver side CV axle. Now the problem is getting the new one installed. Is there any special trick, or do I just need some serious muscle to get it to seat all the way into the transmission. I am afraid to tap the axle in with a mallet, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

You can use a mallet/hammer to hit the end that the axle nut goes on. Or you can put the other end in the steering knuckle then thread the axle nut on until it is flush with the end of the axle. Then you can hit it with a hammer. That is how I have done a ton of axles on different cars.

The good old mallet worked, just took a little effort. I was able to assemble everything back together, and it worked! No more pop pop when I turn!
