Have a 97 AWD trans input shaft sleeve question. In the process of swapping out clutches and found the shaft sleeve kinda beat up. It appears its not fully seated back to case unless this is normal? Has some grooving and appears to have some side high and low sides. Saw with a google search that jacks still sells the sleeve if its comes to it. Had a non oem tob on it that i I removed. The end of the sleeve has a lip that i planned on filing down so my oem tob will slide over. Basically just verifying if the sleeve needs to be pushed farther back? If it looks to be saveable, was shifting fine when removed, and if by the looks of it I should press it off and try and get another if they are still available?

I'm not an expert in this area but I seem to remember that the bellhousing sleeve that the throw out bearing rides on is part of the casting and not replaceable.

It looks like this was a repair attempt where someone cut the old sleeve down and installed a new sleeve over it which is now all galled up. Maybe I'm wrong and this is how 2G trans are but I think you'll need someone to turn you a replacement and install it.

Great find, I assume your referring to this. If it's common to all AWD 2G's I'm surprised there isn't more discussion about them. Glad to learn something new today. :)

There is a steel sleeve in all AWD 2G trannies. The FWD 2G, all 1G AWD and FWD units do not have them. The PN is MD716349. I would highly recommend you replace it. When you press the new one in, make sure the shaft is clean and put a little locktite on it so it won't slide off while the car is running. On the units that don't come with this sleeve, they will sometimes have some pretty nasty wear on them. We will run the bell housing on our milling machine to shave the sleeve down so we can install the steel unit. It was very cool of Mits to do the sleeve in the 2G AWDs, too bad they didn't do it for the rest of them...

Jack

Might be tough to find one. https://www.amayama.com/en/part/mitsubishi/md716349 says >1. Maybe this is something one of the freelancers might like to make.

I found this still for sale as well, link to jacks transmission for oem sleeve. https://www.jackstransmissions.com/.../tob-sleeve-for-2g-awd?sort=p.price&order=ASC ... His post states that they use a mill to cut down the old one and press new one on.. wondering if I can attempt to cut the old one off delicately and remove and it and buy that part and try and press/tap the new one over the shaft and put a little red loctite on it like his post states to hold in place. Im new to seeing this
