20g gm/s airflow seems off

I've fixed a my exhaust leaks on the sbr manifold by using the V2 obx manifold. and now I see numbers that stay in the range of 335gm/sec- 345gm/sec at a constant 29 psi with 12 degrees of timing.

Is this in most in your eyes a very well flowing setup for this turbo? or does it seem i may have a few bottle necks left to go? I've seen people push 400gm/sec out of a 16g.... so whats going on?

I'd like to know who pushed 53 lbs/min with a 16g. Your airflow works out to around 45 lbs/min, which is about what to expect from a td05h 20g.

I personally don't know. I've read it in threads when I was searching.

This is a Buschur racing ported and clipped put in a mhi housing, so is their more left to be had?
I ask because i can up the boost to 32-33 psi and see no changes in flow whatsoever.

Well, a 20g compressor can flow more than that, but don't expect much more from the td05h turbine, even if it's clipped to a nub. Remember, all that exhaust is trying to get out of a 2" exducer bore turbine housing.

You may get it to spike to 32-33psi but I doubt it's going to hold it.

it spikes to 35 psi and holds 32 psi till my shift point at 7200 rpm's because I'm on stock cams.

You're out of turbine flow. You either need a larger turbo or upgrade the turbine wheel if you want to see more airflow- some compressors don't respond well to a turbine upgrade because it can make the compressor turn at a slower overall speed, but I've heard of a handful of TD06H 20G users reporting airflow near what 50-trim owners are seeing at around 30psi.

I bet if you monitored your backpressure (at the manifold) when your boosting past 30psi your backpressure is higher than your boost pressure..causing backfilling, contaminating the air/fuel mixture and making it more prone to knock as well.


Be happy with less boost, likely letting you get away with a little more timing...or get ready to upgrade.

Once your airflow levels off, adding boost is never a good idea unless you're trying to prove a point by making a certain HP number with a certain setup. Most of it is wastegated, but the excessive backpressure and EGT's will start to do things like this:

I'm highly considering keeping this turbo as is, and stroking my 6 bolt out to a 2.3l.
along with 272 hks cams and a magnus V3 intake manifold. and see what happens when it's all back together.
Since it's an auto, my shift points will never be higher than 7,200 rpms anyways, so i might as well use some torque on my bottom end.

With my rebuilt engine, I'm showing 370gm/s or 48lbs a min, at only 26 psi with 22 degrees of timing.

So my headgasket was the cultprit.
