Ok i have no idea whats going on. I bought one of those japanese import motors had to change all the bolt on stuff except for the turbo which i think is a small 16? It has the twin fins and is marked tdo4hl-13t-5. The thing is im not running a MBC and im running from 15-20 psi without hitting fuel cut. I checked and it has the 450 injectors and ive never changed the pump. From what i understand 20psi should not be possible but its running amazing.

Damn, first off thats good news that its running great. My stock talon with a 3" exhaust, 14b and 450 injectors, was running 15 lbs spiking to 20. It ran great but I don't recommend it with out some supporting mods, its too easy to break stuff. For your assurance at least add a cheap datalogger and maybe a safc and some injectors.

you need to restrict boost right away, you must be running lean.... CAr might be running ok but you will encounter a moment when you heat things up and damage something....keep boost under 15 until you upgrade fuel system...

that's not a 16g variant, it would be a td05. Are you holding 20psi to redline or spiking 20psi and falling?

It's running 15 at about 3500 and creeping to 20 by about 4500 and staying there to redline. I'm running it through the stock BCS with 93 octane and a bottle of octane boost. It doesnt seem to be running hot actually the water temp never gets to half way on the stock gauge. I shouldnt be able to even make it past fifteen without hitting fuel cut should I?

I wonder if maybe there could be something wrong with my gauge? Does anyone know what turbo this is i know its bigger than my t25. I had to change the o2 dumps to use my stock exhaust and the one it had on it was ported bigger. Ive searched every where wanting some specs on it. From what i've found its probably a rvr motor right?

One more thing what would everyone suggest as far as cheap datalogger? would i need one if i got a system that allows me to plug into my eprom and do a little tuning ive seen one that looks pretty simple im just kind of hesitant to start messing with the ECU.

The td04 came on the automatic trans 1G dsms. It's a smaller turbo than the 14b. Similar in size to your T25. It really won't flow much air even at 20psi but here is a real possibility of damaging your engine. When the previous post said it'll overheat your engine what they meant was it would cause detonation and blow a hole in your pistons from running lean. Try just running a vacuum line from the turbo outlet nipple to the wastegate, that should fix your boost problem a save you from buying a new engine.

I would definitely run less boost if possible. I know this is a better flowing turbo, but with my small 16g I had to drop boost down to 14psi to keep my IDC at under 90%. I ran fine and I wasn't lean because I had a pump but I was maxing out my injectors. Also, it's not about your water temp getting hot. It's the EGT's in your motor going up, you cannot measure that unless you get a EGT Gauge.

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature.

Since your car is a '99 (or so your profile states, with stock ECU I'm assuming), you should be able to use Evoscan as a logger ($25) but you'll need a cable to do so. Other loggers are available, but cost-wise Evoscan is a good choice on 2gb. You have 3 options for cables: Vag 409.1 (Cheap at about $15 via Ebay, but I haven't gotten one to work despite others having them work fine), Openport 1.3 ($60 but cannot flash our ECUs; dataloging only) and the Openport 2.0 ($180 with flash connector; full ability to log and flash our H8 ECUs, logging speed is slightly slower as it is a pass-through design). The logger will let you see how badly you're knocking and how much timing your ECU is pulling to compensate.

Also by far get a wide-band O2 so you can see how lean you are running, the stock narrow-band isn't going to tell you anything useful on the logger. Hitting 20psi on stock fuel will likely wreak major havoc on your motor, and I'd hate to see a good motor get trashed.

Once you have the car running properly, and the logger up and running, you can start to delve into tuning. Make sure to read heavily before attempting any tuning, messing around with your ECU blindly has a good chance of wrecking your motor. Basic timing/fuel maps can be adjusted on your stock rom and flashed back in, as well as injector and MAF scaling when you upgrade. Ceddymods (Donationware; i.e. free, but donations are appreciated) is making good progress on our ECUs, and the upcoming 2.0 release should have all kinds of goodies; from convenience things like CEL on knock and turning your useless factory boost gauge into a knock gauge or narrow-band, to straight performance options like launch control, No-Lift-to-Shift (already available in current release), and stock ECU boost control. Hope some of that helps you out.

smaller than the 14b but similar to size as t25?? Isnt the 14b SMALLER than the t25?? Just has bigger turbine? Every pic I seen the 14b is smaller...

I wouldn't recommend running anything above 18 PSI with stock injectors, since knock usually starts at around 19 PSI with the stock 450s. Right now on the Talon I'm running 18 but thinking of dropping it to 16PSI just to be safe. It all depends on what you are willing to risk, it will run fine for now but eventually give out if you beat on it a lot.

I know the 14b has bigger internals, the way it was worded it sounded like they were talking about appearence

Nah dude the 14b is bigger then the t-25 even in apperence.

To the OP im suprised you havnt hit a fuel cut or something. Yeah deffinitly find a way to tune it and Maybe purchase a MBC. I recomend Hallman.

You need to make sure that your motor gets up to full operating temp!! It is actually very hard on your motor to run low temperatures. Your internals will wear and fail at a highly accelerated rate.

that cant be stressed enough! especially with turbo charged motor, its like doubling the wear rate on your entire motor.

Also, hes not hitting fuel cut because his turbo doesnt flow very much air. :thumb:. runing a big turbo like a PTE something or another, will flow way more air at 11 psi than a 14b at 11psi.

MELBOWSKI i ordered a cable. So what do i do next? Im confused about flashing my ecu what your saying is that a 99 ecu will let me log then go back and change fuel and advance/retard timing over rpm ranges like with dsm link but without spending all the money? But i need a wideband 02, do i need the gauge too or just the sensor?
