how do you check transmission fluid on manual 1997 gst spyder and i drove to hamilton mall today with gf and i park and notice a burning smell from underhood when walked by i just went inside and thought nothing of it cas it smelled like brake dust cas new brakes on front the came out looked under hooked and on firewall there was fire chips i checked belts and were fine i looked around seen nothing car runs fine just needs o2 sensor and sum tlc but cant figure out y the firewall was on fire i raced home and drove it 45mins home and poured bucket water on it

Wait you actually had a fire. I've heard of this happening because the o ring around the injector is leaking somehow causing a fire. Most M/T do not have a dipstick to check fluid. You might just have to drain and refill..

theres two plugs on your transmission case, it eaisier to do if you have a pit, one is drain and one is a fill, you fill till it is level with the bottom of the hole

look in your manual it will show you pictures

For checking M/T fluid. You need to unscrew the fill plug. Then stick your finger in there if you can feel fluid its fine. If its low fill till it comes out the fill hole, then put fill plug back in.

As for the second question, you need to re-write that it makes no sense.

I hope that tomorrow you will post something I can understand.

Yeah, I count at least 15 instances of misspelling or missing punctuation in that one sentence. One HUGE sentence.

I think it's time for the OP to think about what he did. Drove home fast so you could pour water on your engine?

If it were me, I would only start it up if I had to fgure out what the fire came from, and have a fire extinguisher on-site.

We'd really like to help you out but the way you typed your question none of us could really follow it and pouring water on an engine is a bad thing to do but not less than we'd expect from someone who can't figure out how to either break a post into a few separate sentences or figure out how to work a dipstick because after all they're pretty sophisticated contraptions and hard to understand and all the more so when they're wet noob but I'll close this for you tomorrow but next time use real words like grownups do and grab a free spellcheck while you're at it because you're apparently the target audience for the things right next to if not in the middle of the bullseye

the fire was coming from the injectors, and for the thing with the dipstick i really thought all cars have a trans dipstick

You need to have the car towed to someone who is capable of replacing your injector seals, and offhand, I can't think of a single car with a manual transmission that has a transmission dipstick. I've been working on cars professionally every day, since Ronald Regan was in office, and I can't say I've ever seen a dipstick on a manual transmission.

Hell, some automatics don't even have that feature.

Unbolt your rail and remove injectors, replace the o-rings.. Or the o-rings need to be put back into place, but I'd just replace them. I have seen one car with a dipstick on M/T a Saturn..Other than that nothing.
