Hey guys, I need your opinions. I've got a 95 Talon that's about to go together with a 2.3 stroker, GT30R, huge Slowboy FMIC, DSMlink, injectors, fuel pump, N20, water injection, blah blah blah...

I am considering taking a job down south for a while and want to take the car with me. I want to have the car as reliable as possible, no hassle, no worries.

What do you guys think about having the stock injectors and a stock chip in the ECU with the above listed mods? Running low boost, no N20, no water injection. Especially with a 2.3, what do you think that would do? My goal would be to not have to have a laptop with me ever, just completely rely on the stock equipment.

Then when I come back home I can swap injectors & chips and have her be bad ass while around my home turf. :D

Well, let me suggest one more thing, but again, its still on the DSMLink side.

You can have and save and load multiple maps and tables or "tunes" in link.

Lets say tune #1 you have setup acts nearly like a stock ecu. Plenty of fuel, easy timing curve/advance, etc. Good gas mileage, etc. Basically everything you want. You could still have your stock boost gauge read boost or better yet, have it setup to read knock as a warning device to you.

Then on the other hand you have tune #2, your "powerful" tune. Whenever you want to have some more fun and power, hook up your laptop, and load your #2 tune and go at it. That will also only take a minute or two.

I think this could save you money. Instead of buying 2 ecu's 2 chips, etc, you could use link and have multiple tunes to load at any given time, and plus all the great logging and features of link.

ALSO!!

Whoever burns the chip for you..

make sure you DO NOT use the Octane Reset feature..

On a 2.3 stroker the Octane value in the ecu (limits total timing as a function of monitoring knocksum over time) is useful for keeping the engine safe..

Without serious dyno tuning for the timing curve (which is a lot different on a stroker than a 2.0) its better to have a safety in the ecu to keep the knock down.

But when you get a chip burned you can have the max timing limited at whatever you want it to be limited it, and you can adjust and alter your timing maps, 1g/2g maps etc.
So what are you saying that the octane value will "override" your adjusted settings?
Doesnt make sense to me but please do explain what you are trying to say because I run this chip... I believe it only gives you the full value of what timing advance you set it at.

Sell the GT30R and put in a 14b, it will put some money in your pocket while giving you better spool. :D ......... Seriously.

That would be refunding a lot of hp though. But hey who cares about hp.
I dont even want to imagen how fast a 14b spools/ and runs out of breath on a 2.3.LOL

And to project tsi, I mean no disrespect with the 'read the posts' comment, I just wanted everyone to know that I want a hassle free setup for a few months.

What about having a stage 1 or 2 chip put in? Can anybody tell me anything about these chips, share some opinions/experiences WITHOUT trying to make a dollar?

www.dsmchips.com

I run a stage 3 custom burnt chip right now made by my friend with our eprom burning software, the same way Jeff at keydiver does it, but I was running his stage 3 keydiver chip on my gst. I eventually will get him to do me another chip because theres a few features were short of that he'd be able to include in the chip.
Chips are the simplest bang for the buck tuning mod you can do IMO. while not having to manually adjusting anything besides your boost controller...:thumb:

But when your ready for real power and tunability then you def will need dsmlink...

If you want no head aches until you get to point where you can actually tune fuel trims and WOT, use the stockers. The ecu already knows the dead time and flow of these injectors.

You sounded like this would be very temporary for getting from point A to point B. I'm just trying to save you some frustration and fuel mileage. PLEASE! don't boost past stock. You have a higher flowing turbine wheel, so you WILL be making more hp per psi then a stock turbo or even an evo3 16g.

I just got my 2.3 Stroker kit and I will be runing mine on the Stock T2small and the Stock ECU untill 650s and DSM Link come of course....but i will be lowering boost due to the amount of air...(like the T2slow can flow much more)...

I was only referring to his situation where hes not going to be strapping the car to a dyno or really trying to dial in his timing map..

Normally id want total control over the timing map and leave the ecu octane value out of it..

But just to get by without much detailed modification to your timing id say leave the octane value alone.. It just watches knock and limits overall timing.. A good thing if your getting too much timing and not really tuning for it..

Well, from all these opinins, I've gathered that everyone thinks that I have no clue about DSMlink... I've got it, it's a great program, I know about different tunes as I use one tune for N20 and one without.

So we've established that for this temporary situation, probably a few months at most, I dont want to use link. Dsm-onster says stock will be ok at low boost, which is what I was looking into to begin with. Him and I are on the same page.

The idea of a stage chip is intriguing but would then have the car operating at higher than stock performance levels, which when I'm 1000 miles from home makes me worry a bit more than rolling around stock.

Can anybody else say anything about chips or stock?

Huh? The chip can actually make your car more reliable if you set it up right.
You program the chip for less aggressive timing maps, no air flow cap, etc and your actually making your care more safe. Not to mention you can get the knock sum gauge were your stock boost gauge can be a knock counter right in front of your eyes as you do a pull... How much more safe can you get than that besides not driving it at all....

You will have no issues running your 2.3 with your stock equipment. I ran mine stock during the break in period with no issues. I even took it to the track with stock injectors, 14b turbo, stock ecu, no boost controller stock everything and still ran a 13.5 1/4mile. It spoolled the 14b under 2800 rpm.

You will want to loose that big turbo.

ok... nevermind...if I poked myself in the eye with a stick I'd ###### be better off than asking any more questions
You have a funny way of showing your appreciation for others who tried to help answering your questions and offering their recommendations, regardless if you agree with them or not. :toobad:
