I have searched high and low, but I have not got a definite answer on this.

Can I daily drive my 1997 eclipse gst 2.3 stroker with stock 450cc injectors and stock ecu. I will not be going above 4000 for break in, so I want to know if this will be an issue. I understand that I will run out of fuel at higher rpm's and have issues if I tried taking this to a track, but would I be able to drive the car without messing with any sort up tuning.

The engine is a 2.3 short block with 9.0:1 compression pistons. I have evo2 cams with evo 8/9 springs and retainers. Turbo is a evo3 16g. I ultimately have 1000cc injectors and going to flash the ecu, but right now my daily driver is down for the count and it will be much easier for me to finish my gst than to fix my Jetta. I need a car to get around and it is getting hard to depend on people to get places on time. So the plan is to get this running then daily drive it till I have a weekend to do the tuning and such. I do not have the knowledge to do so, so I will have to get someone to help and all of this will take time that I do not have.

So CAN I drive my 2.3 stroker with a 16g turbo, 450cc injectors, and stock ecu?

thanks
Chris

what was your set up? was it a 2.3? waht compression pistons? How did it run?

thanks for reply!

It was my friends car i helped put together, was a 2.3l and same compression pistons. Only other mods was intake and exhaust. I drove it like that for a few weeks to break in the motor while he was gone, and he then drove it lile that for months while saving money for upgrades. I now have a 2.3l i just finished up, all stock except intake and exhaust as well. I plan on driving mine like that aswell for awhile. Im sure you would be better off with a fuel pump atleast, but with stock boost it shouldnt really be an issue.

I have a 190 in it already. Thank you very much for the info. I have 2.5 inch exhaust and a 3 inch intake.

So were you able to bring it to 6k or so with that set up or did it hit fuel cut?

Ahh my bad, i must have missed that, with a 190 your fine. I didnt take it past 5 grand ever since it wasnt my car even though I drove it alot LOL. Im not sure if he ever did take it that high or not though to be honest with you.

5k should be fine to daily drive! thanks a lot for information. Did it idle and drive smooth like a stock set up with more power or any tuning issues? I am not worried if you said you brought it to 5k, but I am very curious if it was a pretty stock quality ride?

I am looking forward to seeing how this set up goes. I had the same turbo on my gsx before I got in a accident, so It will be cool to see how much improvement comes from the motor alone!

Thanks again for putting up and responding to all these questions!

No problem man, the turbo spooled extremely fast as you can imagine LOL, but it drove very good. Strokers seem to cause more vibration, and his was worse cause of no balance shafts, and motor mount inserts, but as far as actually driving the car goes it drove very well, it just had insta-boost haha.

Well that sounds great, I was worried about this for the last few days. I shold have the car on the road soon, motor went in yesterday. Starting to hook everything up on monday. Taking the weekend to have some fun.

EDIT:Turbo/manifold set up is not mine, buddy has it on there to mock up a custom o2 housing, just a coincidence that the turbo is same color as my engine :) Makes me want it very bad.

Wow looks really nice, I just got done timing mine up yesterday. I gotta knock out the dreaded shock tower rust so I can drop it in, and Im hoping to have mine ready to go here by the end of the month. The purple with the white is incredible. Nice work man. I like the strokers alot. 2.0 is a really good race motor, and there good on the street to, but the stroker is another animal. The damn things are just incredible on the street. better off boost response, faster spool up, way more torque, I love them haha. I don't mind giving up some revs since mine will be a fast street/strip car. Plus I have a descent set up that I could take to 8000-8500 If i had to, which is plenty for me.

Thanks guys, I have to give credit to my buddy. I have been working side by side with him, because he has a much greater knowledge of building motors than me. I do not have the patience to paint everything to make it this pretty, but he made me LOL. He also is a much better painter than I, you can pick out the few parts I painted by the drips :)

Ultimately this car is going to look amazing and hopefully drive just as good. There has been a lot of work put into this car and I am getting very impatient. I will start a build thread/blog thing on here soon once I have the time and figure out how!

I have yet to actually drive a stroker, so I am excited as H***. I think a stroker is best for my street tastes. I like quick spool quick power and something that will make my passengers wet their pants. I am not a numbers guy, just a guy that likes his car to be exactly what he wants. I look forward to see your set up done also! 2.3FTW
