Just purchased my first dsm, 1990 eagle talon. it has a few issues but i'm really happy with it. One concern i have is the gas pedal, it is STIFF!! to the point i've gotta fix it before I drive it anymore. :sosad:

The prev owner told me he already removed the cruise control box and installed a non-cruise cable. I guess he thought that would do it as i would but no go. It is as stiff as ever. Does anyone know a solution or something i could check to get this pedal more normal?

any help is appreciated.

I have same problem. I was told to check and make sure cable is run correctly and its not binding up. I just have gotten used to it.

I did this to mine long time ago and was the best thing ever for throttle response/feel.
Make sure you have the cable ran the right way and no tight bends to get it back to the manifold and then check the adjustment bracket and make sure you don't have the cable pulled to tight.
Plus 1 on the comment on BrokenTSi, check the throttle plate movement with the cable off and see if you're binding on the throttlebody shaft.

Moving the throttle body by hand is easy, I checked the pedal and I believe my problem is in the spring on the pedal. I'm hearing an almost grinding sound or something. I sprayed some rust cutter/wd-40 type stuff. It helped but not near enough. Guess I'll pull the pedal and see if it's the spring

This was the problem I had on my 92 eclipse. I used white lithium grease and never had a problem with stiffness(giggity) afterwards. It was pretty damn annoying though so I wish you luck on that endeavor.

Good to hear someone else with a similar problem. I guess I'm just gonna take it off and lube it up. If that don't work I'll try to find another spring or another pedal assembly

May be a longshot, but I had a similar issue with mine. Turned out to be some papertowels in the TB from my fmic install. Put them in the pipe so stuff wouldnt get in it overnight. Maybe the PO did something similar?

I drove it for two hours with the stiff pedal. If there were towels in it I don't think it would run but I'll look in the tb and check for anything

sounds like the problem lies within the cable itself if the plate opens smoothly. had a similar problem also...turned out to be the line was frayed inside and causing it to bind. if all else fails replace throttle cable. also you could try taking it off and lubing it with lithium grease and reinstalling. you could also lube the pedal. goodluck

I wasn't able to fool with the pedal or cable today. I'm just gonna pull everything out and grease it up, loosen it up or whatever. I think the guy who put this car together just threw everything on in a hurry. I'm also having problems out of the shifter and other things

fixed it, pulled the cable off, lubed it up and ran it a better way and made sure no kinks were in it. like a new pedal now!

In case anyone else runs into this - I had the "Stiff Gas Pedal" and finally fixed it by spaying lube in where the throtle cable goes through the firewall at the top of the gas pedal. It was a tight fit, but once I got some lube in there it worked a lot better...
