hey everybody my name is adam and i just bought a 92 talon tsi awd 6bolt. Its not my first turbo car but it is my first dsm. My daily driver is an 08 wrx with alittle work done and i normally only buy Subaru but want a change.

My talon is not in the best shape and is not running right. i am in the process of vinyl wrapping the whole car gloss black. The engine is rough LOL it likes to pop the dipstick out and spray oil :( when the car is cold there is no oil pres but when warmed up the pres comes back. compression test cold says dead cylinder. I really dont care about these problems since I will be either tearing the engine down and building it around my gt35r turbo i have, or i would like to find a built 6bolt engine i can drop into it. currently i have an gt35r turbo, tial wastegate, aeromotive fuel pump and regulator, ACT 6puck heavy duty solid clutch, and all my gauges. so i guess im posting this to ask u guys what the best upgrades for the engine are if i go that way or if anyone can recommend a good built engine.

Thanks guys :)

It's been really helpful for me and I've printed out a lot of the articles.

It doesn't appear you are quite at that stage yet though. Finish the rebuild and do proper maintenance first, to avoid headaches down the line.

My gift to you, if you are going to do anything with that 35r, you are going to need it

A basic bottom end is all you need.

Eagle rods are cheap and damn strong, stock crank, and just about any forged piston. Ross pistons are a little soft, so they make a good street piston. If you want max strength, look at JE or Wiseco HDs.

MLS headgasket, ARP fasteners throughout, and some big cams/SMIM/head work to let it breathe.

Choose your machine shop wisely, and good luck with the build!

I haven't had the chance to fully go through this site but i will one of these nights LOL

THANKS EVERYONE i will be looking into everything and picking the best route for me to go and i will be posting pics soon

honestly, my advice would be to get the car running first, then worry about "way more horsepower".

Read his post. He knows the car is in rough shape, he bought it that way to do a full build.

It's not like he's trying to slap a 35R on a car that hasn't had an oil change in 2 years.

I did read that, and I'd still recommend he get the car running decently before dumping a ton of money into his first DSM.

1 - he doesn't know if he even really likes a 1G DSM or if he just likes turbocharged AWD vehicles. before dumping thousands of dollars into the car, it's worth driving it around a bit to see if it's even worth spending the time and money on

2 - since he purchased it not running correctly, he has no idea what else might be wrong with it. before dumping thousands of dollars into the car, it's worth driving it around a bit to see if this chassis is even worth building up or if he's better off using it as a parts car/winter beater/etc.

If you're gonna drop a 35r in, your gonna want a built head, and a sturdier bottom end. No one with a 35r wants to stay in the 14psi range. Decide if you want to be a highend killer like up to 8-9k rpms, or whether you want a street grunt with a stroker that will spool that turbo fast, but not gain anything over 7k.

ok well i do know i want a awd turbo car since i have owned a few Subaru's. I have been driving this dsm around for a bit and i do like it. so i just dropped some money into it. To go along with the stuff i already posted i now have a different 6 bolt engine with Weisco Forged 8.3:1 Piston w/ Eagle Forged H-beam rods & Clevite bearings. All ARP hardware. B/S removal kit installed, and i bought a greddy PRofec B-spec II boost controller. i will be working on the head and everything soon and cant wait to pull the engine thats in it and drop this one into it.
