So i have the 98 gs for now and was looking to get a little extra hp out of it but keep it as a dd .:hellyeah: any cheap turbo that keep it safe for a dd but add some power ?

I tried looking on the forums but could not find any helpful kits or parts for some power. Let me know people, thank you! :D

go on ebay ,
egr block off $30
cold air intake $50
header $100
fat fart can LOL $50
punch the cat out $free
get front and rear strut bars $50
clean up your engine bay
then try to get as much as posible for that car and buy a gst/gsx/tsi, thay come stock over 200hp:)then you can star you build
if you dont no much about these cars, dont worrie , you will. they have been making people machanics sins 1989, true that haha

I see what everybody say and i respect it. I cant sell my car because i spent too much time working on my 2g (paint, welding, wiring) I dont want to get rid of my 2g and did all the work for nothing. Im going to stick with it. I have a second 420a motor on the engine stand for my next project. Im thinking doing low compression and boost her or i might just rebuild it and sell it to save up little bit to get me 4g63 motor. I got to find someone who sell gst fame mount so i can fab and move the motor mount and add fame mount to support 4g63 as well.

I just had to add: Getting to 200 hp on a 420a costs alot of money and requires significant internal/head work. You most definitely would need much higher compression to get there as well as a higher revving engine.

200 whp NA, yes
200 whp turbo, no

just clarifying.

this is a BAD idea.

if you want a 4g, just buy a car with it.
the work needed to do a swap is just not worth it, and likely you'll get halfway through it and give up, like 99% of everyone else who does it.

if you understoond exactly how hard it is to swap a 420a for a 4g, you wouldn't even think about it.

If it was so easy to do, all the avenger people would do it. But it's not. You pretty much need a running/driving 2g turbo car as a doner, but if you already have that, then there is no reason to do a swap.

true story.

you might be getting aggervated with so many people telling you the same thing (don't do it), but we are just trying to help you (and your car) out.

Sigh.... Only spend money on that car if its getting you better gas mileage. Don't work about the rest of that crap. 1500$ sure is alot that could go towards a clean project. If your car isn't broke don't fix it, drive it and love it. This has been covered way to many times to not pop up on tuners (IE google search 420a mods or something to that effect with dsmtuners behind it.) sorry to burst your bubble but for ALL of that work and money. It just isn't worth it. I hate to say it, but with all the time and money you are better off owning a civic LOL.

Do not think we are here to put you down on a "bad idea" but that is just what it is. A bad idea. So much money even some n/a 4 & 6 cyl will stil take you

Not hating in the 420a,

I wish I could mod my 3100 cutlass to be fast, but at the end of the day the only real way to get a real gain back is to drop a 3800 s/c in. See where I'm going?

necro: Youre correct sir, i just assumed the OP would know i meant NA. With turbo? Very easy to get over 200 even on stock block/head. How long will it last? Who knows LOL

okay Im not going to against you. I respect you and i guess i wont do it. Most of you got more knowledge than me. Im still learning little by little but i still love dsm.

I think I'm just going to make it look pretty LOL I'm going to get a gst by summer so i will just save up. Thanks guys and i appreciate the help. :thumb:

You guys make it seem like the turboed 420a is pointless LOL. No, it may not be the fastest thing on earth, but i have to say that the experience is Fun! Taking a 130-140 hp car upwards of 300 hp. The money is not a waste if you love the car. Besides, every DSM does not have to be a top fuel dragster. Its just fun (IMO). I dont regret doing it. Power to the OP.

If you already owned 2g n/a, would you buy another 2g 4g63t? it would be a dumbass for wasting all that money unless if you willing to plan to swap it. (alot of work, I mean ALOT of work buddy).

All. Wheel. Drive.

:banghead:

True but if he's planning to sell it down the road (which he said) I wouldnt spend money on it. I wouldn't with any car but that's just me. Im sure taking a 140 hp car to 300 is fun but just imagine taking a 210hp car to 400 fairly easy and then add awd on top of that but to the OP, it's your car so do with it what you like. Just read alot and then reread everything just to make sure you understand what your doing and why.

Odd's are you are not going to be flooring it stop light to stop light if it's your DD.
Get a 75 shot of NOS, cheap, and you will be over your 200hp mark :)
Plus a nice chunk of change for other upgrades!

Beautiful speech +1. It true and I realize I dont want to mod on my 420a anymore. Im planning to buy Gs-t soon. 420a is really good for gas and have fun. That just me. :thumb:

It true. To op, But be careful to use Nitrous Oxide. It scary thing to press that button. You got to know what to do or you will cry and say R.I.P 420a.

the 75 shot is not too bad on internals but yea it defiantly can go Boom, a msd 6-al will set up timing retard to keep the Boom at bay! A little expensive for msd but still under 1500 for over 200hp!

Not related, but My buddies probe has had a 75 shot on it for years, and he goes through bottles like no other, years later, still going through bottles and his motor has over 300k+ plus it's a ford!

Plane the block and shave the head down to raise compression ratio to 11:1.

Add a coil booster so you can get 70 to 85 KV to the plugs. Use plugs with .044 gap to really get an explosive spark

Full race, high lift cams. Make it breathe very nicely.

Something for starters to get some more bump out of that motor ... And you don't need a turbo.

OMG... come on enough with the 200hp arguements over what can and can't be done. Has no one listened to the 2 most intelligent people on here? 91stocker and necrotopsy made the most eye opener and common sense posts and people still go on about this idea. There were others who were hittin on the same door here so thats good, but for the others.... give it a rest.

Well appartently you can't post "O M G" together or that stupid face icon pops up. Alright, IF you serioussssly want to get into the real 4G63 dsm world j5productions guy, be ready for a painful relationship with your car. But doing it RIGHT from the beginning... that will eliminate 80% of your pain and fustration. Anyone that has owned one will be able to agree with that. If they don't, its because they're still learning the hard way and havn't lifted the blinders off yet.

True, just rid of the GS and get a GS-T AWD .. plain and simple.

And the funny, yet making sense, is: the money shoved onto that 420A, could have bought you a GS-T, and it's all put together from the factory-you didn't have to assemble anything.

That's the beauty of it ^ entire point summed up above. It's a obvious win-win. And i've heard friend's of mine complain to me that they'd be soo worried both the cost of a gs-t, gsx, or tsi would be much more as well as insurance would be astronomical. Not true. Especially since its a dsm, so unless your a show car... seriously body parts aren't $ enough to necessitate Premium coverage. Body parts are like $50 max for almost anything

You'll put more time and money into trying to reach a mark in a 420a then if you simply selling your N/a and buying and GST.

I have a 420a currently and i honestly love it. Even if it is not the fastest car in the world, its my car and i take care of it. I suggest to do the sameto your 420a. Keep it nice and clean! Cheap intake w/ filter and cat-back with headers won't hurt anything. As long as you love your car make it how YOU want it cause its yours. Only you can decide if its "worth" to turbo a 420a. I think it is. My favorite saying is "cars are built, not bought" :D

I figured since I've went through the full deal of throwing money at a 2G 420A car, I'd give you my experience. I did DC 4-2-1 ceramic header, testpipe, APEXi N1 catback, Injen short ram intake, and B&M short shifter. Looking back on it if it didn't have so much rust damage under the car I most likely would have kept it and just had it repainted since the paint was going to crap. In the long run the mods did net me better fuel economy but it was no where near the wasted time and effort. Check your under body really well. Mine looked like it was coated with mud, but that was how much rust was under it. If your car looks like it will last you a good long time. Then I say lightly and tastefully mod it as your daily driver. You can always pick up a good deal on a 4G63T DSM later on and go crazy with it while still having something that gets great gas mileage and looks sexy.

That being said, I love my Talon TSi. :D

Ook i don't mean butt in but it seems to.me that everyone here is knockin on the 420a well I have a 420a and from what I can tell I can rape a g35 infinite. Q gt mustang. A turbo eclipse with a 16g turbo runnin 23lbs of boost and dog walk a built b18c1 with a gsr head on it. And last I check all I have from what I've seen and am told is stage 2 cams. Still confused on how the 420a isn't a good motor and yet I have nearly 200k miles. And the turbo eclipse was a 4g63t I mean come on. I dog walked a ####in vr4 twin runnin jet fuel on the highway. And a nodded Celica with the works done to it. Explain why the 420a is a bad motor. Please. LOL LOL
