im pretty new to the whole dsm thing, in fact today was my first time messing under the hood replacing a water hose. but after searching the past 8 hours on here and checking out the problem physically i think i've narrowed it down to the engines running too rich. after the engine goes through it's normal warm up mode where it supposedly runs richer than normal and i go to put the trans in gear the idle drops to 400-450ish and seems to struggle. however if i turn the car on and as it's in the normal more rich mode warming up and i put it in gear it instantly dies. is that because it's running richer at all times as well?(and running rich+running rich= way too much gas LOL?) i listened to all the fuel injectors and noticed one of them is making a loud thumping compared to the other 3. so if i go out and buy a replacement injector would that make the engine run leaner and help the idle while in gear? or could the prob of the idle while in gear not be that injector at all and be more serious such as the TC or end clutch etc?
 
and if i mess with the honeycomb on the MAS to try to lean up the gas unknowingly to the ECU would that help my prob, although it's given other people low idle trouble due to running too lean? thanks for any input in advance.
 
Don't mess with your MAS. The problem most likely lies elsewhere. And I doubt you could "tune it out" with a MAS hackjob anyhow.
Do your rpm's drop when you put the clutch in? err, are you automatic?
And that funky sounding injector, is it firing or is it just loud?
What are your 02 sensor values? ( You would need a logger )
Does the car drive fine, otherwise?

yea im auto, it's does the same in reverse and drive. the injectors definately getting fuel to the cylinder if i pull the sp out while it's running it acts up big time. i've found another issue that may be to blame though, today i cruised around town at 20 mph with my foot of the gas the whole time. it ran perfect at 1k rpms while in gear of course. but i was coming home at 55mph and have to merge into a road off the main and ended up having to hit my breaks pretty hard and the rpms went down way too fast and the trans shifted "hard". so it idles fine while in gear as long as my foot is off the brake. could the prob be with the brake booster? if im at a stopsign i've had to hold my foot on the gas to keep it running at times.
 
perhaps it's that im thinking that 2 diff probs are one and the same LOL. maybe the brake booster is acting up and messing with my engine idle while stopped in drive/reverse. and the misfire is from the injector being clogged and has nothin to do with the other reason(brake booster) that the engine is acting sluggish while stopped. i got a quote for a new injector for 300$ today LOL, so im sticking with a used one for 17$ off ebay. oh and is the ecu capable of sending diff amounts of fuel to each injector depending on how it's piston is firing? or if one got clogged and the ecu had to send more fuel to keep it's emission the same as usual would it also send more to the other 3 as well?(cause if not i better check my fuel line my fillups lately have been a pain).
