Figured I'd post this in the newbie section to keep the flames of me. In summary I just back in dsms this weekend. I bought a 90 tsi awd in overall good shape. Has a newer motor with 30k on it. Most preventative maintenance has been done as far as I know.
The car is lightly modded with a Frank 3 turbo in very good shape, old school afc, boost & egt gauges, 3" full exhaust, 550cc RC Injectors though I do have a set of Denso 660's, 1g uncrushed bov. Its currently set at 15#'s.
My question is what route should I take for moddIng? Should I keep the Frank 3 and mod around It or sell it and get something more suitable for my mods?

Overall goal would be somewhere around 350-400hp. Id like to keep the turbo much different from my evo3 16g. It takes till 4300 for full spool but man does it hit hard. He still had on the stocker upper and lower ICP. So once I replace with hard pipes maybe it'll spool a little faster.
Im pretty certain about getting Dsm link v3 being half of you named it off top. Definitely a WBO2 also. As for the wally 255: I have wally 190lph installed do the benefits over rIde the fact I dont need an AFPR wIth 190? I'm not going to try running 25#'s of boost, probably 18-20lbs most. Thanks for your help guys seems like we're on the right!

You are fine with the 190 for what you are trying to do. Personally I would have a 255 and a FPR installed, but Im a bit OCD and I'm worried I won't have enough fuel. But once you get your Link and WB installed, you an make that call with a few idle logs and cruise logs.

Keep the turbo, focus on making sure the supporting fuel mods are in place and get the best management you can within your budget while leaving some for emergencies (hint DSMlink V3, or a Megasquirt if your good with electronics building, or hell you cna buy one complete for 400 bucks)

with the frank 3, get some used 720's or 1000s' and go bigger on boost or go E85 (hell i have some 720's i was gonne make staged injection with but i'll selll for 125 bucks)

But back on target, if it's well maintaned, get the best management you can leaving about 1/4th of your total cash for incidentals and small emergencies, then learn to log and tune and become one with your car's nervouse system (the electronics) and then you can really extract the most from the potential. I would say that 550's are too small for a frank level 3 turbo though. Those are at 85% IDC on a B16g with any boost put to it and good flowing intake and exhausst

what does it have for intake (filter type) anbd what's the exhaust (cat-back, turbo back, with cat or without?)

The thing about money and fast cars is the third element and that's a friend that's smart and has fabbing tools and extra parts from his build laying around... if a friend came to me with a grand and that car i could do about 5-7 times more gains using the money and tossing in free labor and some parts of my spares bin to make the car killer, where if i said "go buy "X" parts for 999.00" it woldn't add all the much. SO, wha tyou have to do is think if you have local friends into the DSM scene or ones that were and ones that work in cars and fixing them up, they are the ones that can make that dollar streeEEeeetchhhhhh waaaAAYyyy out into some performance :D

Completely agree with you now that you mentIon It. The 255 and AFPR are more than likely gonna have to wait 3-4 weeks though.

Hello again glen, yes link v3 will take up more than half my budget. Like you said if I can play my cards right I'll be able to stretch my remaining dollars.

Will the Denso 660's I have not flow enough for me? I ask because I have them on hand and people say they flow more than their rated for?

As far as intake it's dejon 4" intake pipe with 2g MAS. Exhaust Is Full 3" wIth no cat back to the muffler(which I think restricting it).

Are their any proven cheap AFPR or Fpr's? If so I think I can sqeeze the fuel pump and fpr into my budget.

Check out MAPerformance, they are having a sale right now on fuel system related items. I just purchased my whole fuel system from them yesterday and they were quite a bit cheaper than the other vendors that I had been looking at.

IMHO I would go through the timing belt components and change them. Last car I bought had a new head and supposedly all new timing parts. Balance shaft belt ended up snapping and killing the valves. Point being don't trust or believe what anyone tells you. You will end up spending that grand on getting a new head. Just check and make sure.

As for what to do with the 1k well like everyone else said get a dsmlink, wideband, Speed density setup. Sell the 550s, afc and 660s that should help pay for the wally 255, afpr and probbaly some bigger injectors if you can find a good deal. Does the car have a front mount?

Yea I like the sound of that habitguy. Only thing is I don't think the wally 190 will flow the 720's. Glen if your still following this shoot me a pm about those injectors.

Personally, I like ExtremePSI a lot better. They are also having a sale and will ship all item within the same day of purchase. I bought my parts and recieved them within 2 days. Good luck and think this through before spending any money.

New paint job! Clearly nothing makes you go faster then a hot pink ride ;)
LOL, I J/K. But as mentioned you could pick up V3, WB gauge, 225, and if you do it right even a FMIC kit ;)

Haha yea I know right! I've got a friend that's gonna paint it for cost but that's later down the road.

So I got link v3 lite and 1990 eprom with the chip installed for $480 shipped. How'd I do? I have a little more than $600 to play with. I was thinking FMIC first and run my Denso 660's for the time being until I get my hands on bigger. Or I could upgrade my fuel i.e. wally 190 to wally 255, AFPR, injectors. Any input is helpful, thanks guys

WB. No question. Forget everything else until you have a WB. Can't use that fancy V3 lite until you can properly tune with it ;)
After that, you need fuel. You can get big injectors, but they're useless unless you can hit those boost levels, and push enough fuel to keep your A/F in the right zone.

WB ($180), wally 255 ($90) (for the extra $2, why not), AFPR ($150), and then the VRSF ($300??) group buy sound great!
So, that totals $720... meh, a little over budget but you own a DSM, get used to it ;) LOL
