DSM best bang for buck?!?!?!

Okay heres the bottom line im 18;; been working as a mechanic in aliquippa PA since i was 15 and bought a 98 GSX when i was 15...
Came to realize that DSM has amazing performace game. And dont even argue 2g DSM's are the nicest looking cars ever?? 4G63 Is one of the most powerful 4 Cyl Engine.. You can buy a DSM with about 50k miles in great condition for 9 grand... Put some engine work in worth about 5 grand and have one of the fastest cars around for a total of 14-15k ?? I dont understand how can you argue with that having a 10 Sec car if you know what your doing make the car look beatiful with some rims new paint job and interior and have a better all around car then a 50 grand Corvetter porsche or Mustang Saleen?? DSM Game is just amazing. #1 in aftermarket parts also. Just put some good work in all for under 20 Grand and you'll Be smoking every single 8cyl Muscle car that comes your way... How much ezier can it get..

Man your so right.. I love the body lines of 2g's. Its so aggresive. I think 1g's are kinda too boxy for my tasted but I would rock one! Ive owned 3 of them so far and currently want another one!

im all about the 2gb eclipse,even though the 1gs are known to have the stronger engines,i like the look of a 2gb and just how the eclipse is overall this is my 4th dsm

Theyre pretty hard to compete with especially if you dont want to to engine work. Fox bodys are also on the cheap. What I always think about is when these cars came out... they were the fastest thing you get for less than corvette money.

Yeah but people seem to compare shitty cars to DSM'S and its just not comparable. DSMS blow and 4 Cyl / 6Cyl car out the water and with slight mods you can include blowin V8's out the water For cheap $.. And DSMS even last past 150,000 Miles most of the time

yeaaaaa. eventually people grow out of em.


i have had a half dozen cars since i was 16. and i have made a point to try every engine and drive-train i could. Camaro, rx7, crx, 1/2 of a miata & 2.5rs, Mr2 and now the dsm. I have made a point on doing my homework and finding the best performance for the money and the best representation of a drive-train or engine i could.
and here i am with the dsm.... so whats that tell ya.

I would give these cars the award for best power for the money. (specifically the 1gAWD, but hey the 2g is a pretty car...) I know of no other car where i can walk out to my garage with a welder and some exhaust piping, basic knowledge of electrical systems and some hand tools and come back with another 15-30hp in the morning. I know of no other car where you can buy a healthy awd for 1500 bucks, put another 1500 in it and have addressed: cooling, fuel, a standalone ecu, intake, exhaust and upped the boost substantially. it takes almost nothing to make another 100hp out of these cars. from stock to 300hp its almost a cake walk, and its really not that hard to DOUBLE the hp from a stock car using all used parts!

they are not the end all of the automotive world. lets be honest they are FAT, and if you like a responsive car or motor go elsewhere, and the weight balance is rubbish. but to each his own.

and i wouldn't give them a prize for fun for the money. they are just too heavy. if you want a giggle machine your money is better spent on the mr2 or rx7, a light MR with a fair amount of power & T-tops is more fun, stock or modified, on a good back road than a DSM by miles. not to say a DSM isnt a good fun car, but the weight makes them feel very muted and to really get a good giggle you need to push them way to hard.
but then with either of those cars people want 7-800$ for a quality used exhaust. on the mr2 its three ####ing feet long... and they want that much. obviously I have always made my own. but its the same story for a manifold or IC or cams. and thats just another 2liter, dohc motor... not special.
the rotory thing is friggin great, not for everyone obviously. its a bit like a really hot chick that is out of your league but some how ended up with you... you must must take care of it and be extra careful with everything you do or it will leave you in a heart beat. but if you are, and you take good care of her.... Wow, the things she'll do!

to wrap up this rant the major thing that kicks ass about the dsm is the 4g63. i tune alot of 3sgte's and a lot of sr20's, for potential and durability neither of those dohc 2lites touch our motor. the porting and flow numbers of the sr make the 7bolt look like a demi god. the 3sgte, she's a fantastic motor and i spent more on making 320hp than i have on my whole dsm, including gas and maintenance. granted that power in a little mr will leave a grin stuck on your face for a week, when i use that much power out of the dsm just commuting. but still huge money for the power.

so you drop that 4g63 in one of the cheapest 4wd sports cars ever homologated... thats a pretty winning combo... its a tough iron hearted beast. heavy... but damn tough.
