Well the build is getting ready to take place. Just curios as to what is working for everyone else. I'd like some personal experiences and not theories.

1G CYLINDER HEAD BUILD

Dual valvesprings, Ti retainers, bronze valve guides, new valve stems, zero tick lifters ect

I'm looking for a valvetrain setup that will handle the lift and duration of the S3 camshafts. I have my mind set on them unless anyone has experienced a better cam that's capable of this type of airflow. So here's the main questions.

What's cost effective?
What really works?

I'm contemplating Kiggly, Supertech, Manley, Ferrera.. Not sure what else is really out there. I'm open to any other brand, as long as they have been proven to handle the abuse.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Whats the goal? What is the end use of the car?

Look at the GSC part # 5041 spring kit, they are a taller spring than the kiggley springs and do not need the thick spring seat like the kiggley.

Engbldr valves and guides are a good quality piece, I have installed I dont know how many sets of both, not one issue with them seen or reported back to me.

800whp is the goal. Ill look into the gsc sprink kit. What do you think about the supertech dual valvesprings and Ti retainers?

Hmmm I think I'd rather spend the money on what works! Thanks for they input Bogus. I will definitely look into the GSC setup.

As for today, I pulled off the head due to some nasty rod knock and low compression in a couple of cylinders. 2 pistons had a ton of play un and down. All pistons had play pressing them from side to side. I've already purchased a used block and head. So out this comes for the full build and in goes the stock setup for now!

Kevin has a new budget set of springs also. Sounds exactly what your looking for. Uses the factory seats too, if you dont like the Kiggly seats. Kevin is one of the most helpful guys around. He also supports the scene and gets out and races. My vote goes to him.

Nothing against the Gsc at all. Just thought Id throw the budget set in here.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I'm going to into those right now. Quick question.. is there any ill effect of the bigger valve spring seats?

Hey bogus, what do you think about the engnbldr 3g lifters and bronze valves for my setup?

Nothing agaist Kiggley, but if you read you will still need the "Thick" spring seats to get to the installed height.

**EDIT**
I went back and looked again, It looks like they redesogned the retainer to sit lower on the valve stem, insted of using the thick valve seat.

325lb/in and 85lb installed at 1.475", these springs support 0.500" lift - good for about 10,000rpm and 40psi when installed to these specs

Most all 4g spring installed heights are between 1.530 - 1.600 depending on how many times the valve seats have been cut for a valve job.

Engnbldr parts.. I have no issue installing them, His valves I have installed in Ford 5.0 and 2300 ( I have a set in my personal car and in my new engine build)
In the 4g63, I have lost count how many sets of both STD and his +1mm valves.

Bronze guide.. again... no issue.. Installed 3 sets just last week.

His 3g HLAs.. they are made in the same factory that Mitsu used to make them back in the day.

Good info. I just bought the package deal from engnbldr. 220 out the door I think. Maybe less. Now I was torn on what valve springs to get.. I hear the supertech duals crap out at high rpm :/ and I was about to get a set for a steal!! 125 shipped. Lightly used of course... I suppose the gsc springs are my best bet.

I do not see where you can go wrong with the GSC springs if you are looking at cams like the Kelford 272 or larger.

Yea I definitely like the feedback for the gsc springs. I'm just a man that loves a good deal! Haha it gets me all the time. But anyways, gsc is where I'm heading. Does anyone the lowest selling vendor on the forum?

Hey bogus, what valve stems do you suggest I buy? Any sites you know that have good deals?

Chiming in to clear up a bit of misinformation.

The valve spring installed height is the distance between the top of the spring seat surface and the bottom of the retainer's spring contact surface. The installed height can be changed with a different retainer design, which is what I did with the steel street spring set. The 1.475" installed height is approximately what will be achieved with an all-OEM head using the OEM valve spring seats with our steel street retainers.

You do not need our thick valve spring seats to get the 85lb on the seat with the steel street retainer kit. The 85lb on the seat figure should be achieved using the OEM spring seat and no shims.

Hope this clears up any confusion. Thanks,
Kevin
