Yes I searched. I was hoping to compile a list of bang for your buck turbos. We all know the the Evo 3 16G is one of them so no need to mention that, however, I was looking more for bigger turbos. 50 trims and bigger. Ones capable of over 450whp and up.

For this list the turbo must meet these requirements.

1. Price (hence the buck) (less than $1000)
2. Power (hence the bang) (450whp or more)
3. Spool characteristics (does it lag big time?) and is it ball bearing?
4. Quality and dependability (no eBay or Chinese knockoffs)
5. Direct bolt on to DSM (no point if you have to spend another $500 on manifold, O2 housing, etc)

The whole reason for this is I plan on getting an FP3065. I've read and heard it's a great turbo. However, it's not a cheap one. I was hoping to just to get a few more suggestions. Maybe there is something comparable for a bit less money. :sosad:

I just purchased the PTE 50 trim 5031RE BB from dejon not too long ago. A month, they had sale going on them for $999.00 plus shipping but now I think they are like $1100. I also got the oil feed and return line kit and the water cooling kit for that turbo as well. Overall, its rated at 450. I'm in the process of installing it right now, just waiting for the exhuast.

I was looking at those PTE Turbos. Are they all ball bearing turbos? How's their reliability?

I got my tax return money today. Ok, now I'm serious. Will buy turbo this week!

My options are:

FP3065
PTE SCM4431RE

Both these turbos seem great from what I read. However, they are somewhat expensive, especially the FP3065 (+ ext. WG + o2 housing). I'd like to try to budget this as I have several other parts to buy as well.

Anyone else can suggest a bolt on turbo in this size category that's less than $1000 and can bolt to the Evo 3 o2 housing.? I want to make at least 450whp on pump gas.

I have a RS49T (50Trim) on my car. I dont know if you can still buy them or not. Its from AGP i think I paid $985. Thats with an internal W-Gate, all new gaskets, fittings and lines that I needed, plus some T-Bolt clamps and a 2in silicon hose.
Came with a 1 year warrent too.

450whp on pump gas with a 50 trim is not impossable but it is going to be really hard and take alot of tuning with almost no room for error. (Unless your pump gas is E85).

That's a great deal. I figured 450whp is pushing it with a 50 trim on pump. That's why I'm looking more towards the 60 trim or higher.

The 3065 will be nowears close to your 1000 buget when all is said & done, it will be over double that.

If you want a turbo under $1000 you will be looking at a std thrust bearing as BB's will run you more then that. The std "50 trim" is always a good choice but your probably pushing it if you want 450 whp. Personally if I had to get a turbo for under $1000, wanted some nice power numbers & not crazy lag either I'd go for the GT3561. But I'm not sure if this will still be an option as I just looked at the Dejontool website & it looks like PTE is discontinueing this model

I know the FP3065 is nowhere near $1000. That's why I'm asking suggestions for another turbo to save my wallet from going anorexic on it, hahaha.

I paid $1007 for a pte 6031, mitsu housing, internal gate, install kit, and a coupler shipped.

Rated 580 hp

Spool up time on bc 272's 3in exhaust, slightly ported head, 20 psi was 3800rpm.

From SBR

Holset HX35

1) Turbo on ebay, off of a diesel: $300, Bullseye housing, internal/external wastegate: $200/160, Oil feed & drain lines: $100 = $600-650
2) Supports 350-550 whp (comparable to 60-1)
3) Full boost: 3600-3900 rpm
4) Hx35 is used on 5.9 L diesels for 150,000+ miles, boosting 30+ psi constantly...very reliable.
5) With the Bullseye housing, it will be a direct bolt on.

Since you only live once I decided to bite the bullet and get the FP3065. So the turbo with all the trimmings (o2 housing, WG, lines, fuel pump and injectors) comes out to about $2500. I guess no steak for me for the next few months, luckily I do like top ramen!

That with a PWR liquid to air barrel intercooler kit, the car should be one mean monster. We'll see how long the 7 bolt holds... haha.
