1gA suddenly died

Driving the car last night, and all the sudden it lost power, hit the gas and it bogged a bit, then shut off. No strange noises, no smoke, nothings leaking. Now it turns over strong, i check and it has fuel and spark. any ideas? timing belt is fine( wether it jumped i dont know?) wouldnt i hear a piston on vavle kinda noise if i jumped timing?

Rotate the crank over and check your timing marks,Just cause you cant hear something dont mean they havent hit.

Yeah if it wasnt downpouring outside i would do that. im hearing my ecu could be my problem also?

Could be. Mine did the same last spring: Driving into town and the thing suddenly died. Luckilly, it died not too far away from home so called my daughter to tow me home. Did a check of the system and it was my ECU that caused my problems (along with a CAS that died ..) - it went to heaven and had to get another ECU and CAS.

Cars with age, do tire out eventually in the electronic department.

how did you go about diagnosing the CAS and ECU? i just picked up another ecu, going to throw it in later.

if you open up the ecu you can visually see damage. most of the time the caps in the ECU will leak and corrode your ECU burning it out. also any resistors or board damage will be visible. i thought i had a problem with my ecu once so i opened it up and everything was fine. turned out to be an MPI relay. there are a lot good sources with pictures that also tell what to look for on google. just search a bit, took me about 5 minutes to find an amazing page that helped me out alot i forgot what it is now though also check all your fuses!!

well, swapped ecu. didnt help. ALL fuses are good. has spark and fuel. Looked at the marks on the cam gears, look to be a tooth off

And this is definite sign of a belt changeout pronto.

For once the belt hops a tooth, you got a weak portion of the belt that can cause worse problems down the road.

did a compression test. 0 psi on all 4 cylinders
