The power windows in my 1g were very slow and binding. Drivers side was coming up crooked also, so I decided to replace both window regulators. $107 shipped for the pair from 1A auto.
If you don’t want to buy new regulator, you can just try cleaning the window channels, lubing them with silicone and cleaning the glass throughly.
Remove the door panel
If you want to preserve the moisture barrier, remove these brackets.
Remove the two bolts that hold the window to regulator.
You can now remove the glass. Tilt the glass so the front is lower than the rear and it should slide out rear first from the outside. Be careful and don’t hulk it. It’s glass. Pay attention to the top of regulator and the two plastic tabs on the bottom of the glass. Now that I think about it, removing those tabs would’ve been much easier.
Clean the glass thoroughly especially the area in red inside and out. A clean razor is your bf.
Now unbolt the regulator and motor assembly. Two on top and bottom, and 3 bolts hold the motor.
Disconnect the connector (red) and guide the assembly out (blue).
Next clean and lube the channels with silicone. You can remove the rear channel.
Lastly, lube the rear upper channel.
Read this backwards and you’re done. Just check the operation before reinstalling the moisture barrier.
I had to switch the polarity for the p/s motor at the connector bc it was working backwards. Up was down and down was up. Made in Taiwan, what do you expect. They are a bit louder but bearable with the door panel on.
