Yes it is totally worth it. Opened up the midrange pull significantly and better throttle response.

^^^^What he said. Plus better top end depending on your turbo and setup. I went a higher mph at the track (and a better time). :thumb:

Just be sure and check for leaks after installation. Definately get new gaskets for either end. Check the rubber gasket between the lower and upper end. Clean it up real good. And if there is a boost leak that sounds like it is coming from the inside, move the throttle plate. If the pitch of the leak changes, it is the throttle plate shaft seals which will also need to be replaced.

All seals and gaskets are replaceable.

Just curious, about how many MPH did you pick up?

About 1.7 mph, but this is on our local 1/8th mile track. I have not been to a 1/4 mile track yet. This is on the same 60' time.

Before I start to do this, I was wondering what people use to grind out the intake manifold to port match the TB. How tough or easy was it to grind? The only thing I have is a drill with grinding bits--will this do, or will I need to get an air grinder?

I used a carbide bit and a drill. Stuff the intake manifold with rags all the way up to where you are porting and go for it. Vacuum out the area with shop vac when finished.

Hmm,
which bit was it like between the two pictures here?

I origionally thought about swapping the tb's when I first read the RRE tech page, but figured there wasn't much of a gain for all that work. Maybe I'll have to rethink that decision, now all I need is a 1G tb :sneaky: . Are all the gaskets available at the dealers or do some of the shops carry them?

I used one larger than any posted which went REALLY fast. It was a high speed grinder with an electric dewalt. In 5 minutes, I was ready for fine grinding and port matching. With the smaller bit, it is a good idea to use tap magic (cutting lube) so the aluminum does not melt to the bit and seal over the blades. :thumb:

I trimmed my 2G ones to fit. I was told that the dealers are not carrying the gaskets anymore for the 1G TB's.

I just got mine from the dealer 1 month ago. :thumb:

figures i would believe it.

chrysler had the upper to lower tb o ring and isc o ring 6 months ago when i picked them up but they were pricey.

mitsu has never carried the tb shaft seals they would rather you buy a new TB though machv sells them and NAPA also carries the appropriate size seals though i forgot there part number.

just found what you gotta ask for at napa, Chicago Rawhide part number 3930 oil seals (2 of them)

I was happy with the 1g TB swap. It wasn't a huge gain though.
Throttle responce seemed much better as well as a little gain in midrange.
Do not expect a huge gain in airflow. In the upper RPM range, I logged absolutely 0 increase in airflow. This was done many times and with absolutely no boost leaks.

Food for thought.
FIAV's are interchangeable in case you have a problem with the 1g's.
TB elbows are interchangeable if something happens to one(lost, etc).
1g turbo or NT TB's will work. If you use the NT one you will have to get a silicone elbow for it to work.
WD40 worked well for me when I do porting. It seemed to help cut it a lot quicker.
Slowboy and MACHV sell the TB gaskets

I have a 2g mani already ported for the 1g TB sitting in my garage collecting dust since the magnus install....LOL

Good luck

It looks like I can do this but I just want to verify. I can get a "bare" 1G throttle body and use all my 2G sensors? (they'll plug right in?), since my car is very low miles & I already know all the sensors are functioning properly. Also are you guys still running with the EGR valve? and everything functions correctly as far as emissions go? (we have emissions testing, & spot checks here. Don't want a $500 ticket for altering emissions) I get hasseled enough as it is :(

I have mine blocked and all the ports on my TB blocked as well. But last year all was good when used the ports on the 1G TB. The only one you are not going to use is the one that is angled out away from the other 3 ports ....A1 I believe it is.

I have all emissions running normal and if you hook up the 1G TB per the instructions, you should get no code.

Also, Mach V sells the 1G TB shaft seals if needed.

Just hook it up per RRE's instructions and your EGR and everything else will work fine.

It really not that much trouble getting the parts to match.

RRE has a great TB elbow to match the 1G TB with the pipe extending 7" or so and angles down to the BOV.

Elbow comes with a gasket for the TB and for a couple more dollars you can get the gasket for the TB to Mani.

I just received mine in the mail and I'm going use it to make my own blowthru pipes. :thumb:
