Resolved 1G Hey what is this hose here on the intake manifold?

It goes to the master break cylinder I think.

is there a book or site that concisely and simply through how this car works perhaps without diagnostic and repair work that anyone knows of?

Thanks, yeah, "booster". That's what I meant

So is that where id put the gauge to test vacuum pressure?

Not to be rude, but there are several hoses in each picture. It would help if you pointed out which one you're asking about. Is it the black and yellow one?

No I was curious about the one going to the booster, as I described the best I could. So is that where you plug your vacuum gauge?

agreed go off the fps, or if you're going to remove your emissions stuff, follow this:

Are you looking to put in a vacuum gauge simply to have a gauge on your a-pillar? If so, do not waste your time, save your money and buy a turbo dsm to start with.

No I'm testing the vacuum pressure at the intake. Apparently that's a popular method for diagnosing irregular idle issues

That would work.

And yes, it runs from the intake manifold to the brake booster. It has a check valve in line that holds vacuum in the brake booster.

Were you telling me that yes I can connect a vacuum tester/gauge to where that hose goes from the break booster to the intake manifold? This vacuum tester kit I got from advance auto has the adapter to go over this nipple or whatever that is under that hose just after the but. I'm just waiting to find out how/where to put this gauge. Haynes tells you without a picture. Still looking on internet...

You just need a spot between the throttle body and the valves. Either the P or E ports on the throttle body will work if the hose is about that size. If it's larger, try the nipple for the hose that the brake booster is connected to, the spot you're looking at in the first post.

I put a T in the line feeding the fuel pressure solenoid. Just as my own opinion....I would never touch the brake booster vacuum line. It's a safety thing and if something happens, you would lose most of the braking capacity.

Are the "fuel pressure solenoid" and "fuel pressure regulator" the same thing?

Nevermind, found my answer on that diagram

First, I apologize for not noticing the the OP is talking 1G. I have a 2G, but, the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure solenoid are two different things. The FPR is attached to the drivers end of the fuel rail. The solenoid is attached to the firewall. It is a small black tubular piece with a vacuum line on one end, another vacuum line sticking out from the side near the end with othe rvacuum connection and a two wire connector on the other end.

That diagram has parts that may or not be in my car and I'm not even that familiar with mine. I can tell you though that my FPR has a hose going with the other fuel lines to the fuel tank and a smaller one with a blue stripe/mark going somewhere tucked in with the coil pack. Do I go off of one of these?

Haynes says "connect vacuum gauge directly to intake manifold vacuum, not to ported (throttle-body) vacuum. Be sure no hoses are left disconnected..."

Huh? So where did they have in mind?
