2G What is the purpose of this hose?

I finally got back to working on my DSM that's been sitting for a few years. I'm trying to get the car running smooth once and for all and this particular hose has me stumped. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Red hose looks like its part of the evap chamber so could be a makeshift vent for it. Thats whst it looks like in the pics anyway. Where under the battery tray does it connect to? If the evap canister is removed then its a tank vent which will follow a hose to the tank
