I drive a 1ga 1990 Eclipse GS with pop-ups. Since I got it the headlights would pop up fine, but the passenger side one wouldn't go down. I can manually turn the headlight down, and it pops back up when I turn the headlights on, but it won't go back down. Is this a motor issue? wiring issue? Idk its a little thing but its pissing me off because the car always looks like its winking... :banghead:

I couldn't find a thread with this problem on it, so if anyone knows of one and could point me to it that would be great.

When you move the headlight manually is it hard to do? Before mine stopped working completely it would sometimes work and sometimes not. It turned out to not be the motor the pivot points just needed to be lubed up. Once I did that and manually worked them for a while I had no more problems.

Doesn't seem to be that hard to turn... I mean it takes a minute to spin down, but hard, no.

I would disconnect the headlight arm from the motor and have someone work the headlights to see if the motor spins when there is no drag. If I remember correctly my motor spun the same way whether it was to raise or lower the headlights so if the motor raises the headlights it should be able to lower them. I would check all the linkage.

You are correct, the motor spins the same way to go up and to go down. It sounds like a linkage issue. Does the motor make noise like it wants to move when its supposed to go down?

I doubt the arm came off, Which is the only thing that would be disconnected. Like said above, you probably just need to put some lithium grease in there and work the pivot balls a bit.

I'll give it a shot... but it doesn't even seem to be making an attempt to move when I retract the lights.

Sounds like one of the two resistors inside the motor assembly went bad, I took my headlight motor apart and replaced both of them, Its not hard to do just a pain in the butt.

Can you elaborate on that?

pull out the white piece on the back side. There are two resistors and they go bad I have one missing, thats because I used it to repair my headlight.

Did you disconnect the arm and have someone work the pop-ups to see if the motor works with nothing attached? You may not have to do anything to the motor. If it doesn't work then you will have to take out the motor but there is no harm in disconnecting the arm to the motor first and seeing if the motor will run when nothing is attached.

As above stated, I will try that tomorrow (prior to messing with the motor itself).

Super dead thread, I had my passenger motor removed to put in an air box knowing my drivers side wouldn't work. Wanting them back I couldn't find the passenger side I found a set that worked paid for them re tested them they work. Connecting them they won't work. Testing the wiring theirs no power to the wire can any one direct me as to why this may be. Both work when powered.
