I just had one quick question: I am having a litle bit of a hard time getting my hands on a 1995 2g eprom for my 98 GST but i have a friend who has a 91 eprom ecu at home i could get for free but im not sure if that 1g ECU would work with my 2g car....
In the near futur i will be performing a 6bolt swap so i dont know if that will change anything

I dont know if it will work with the harness or not, BUT i wanted to say that if i was doing a 6 bolt swap into a 2g, id put the whole ecu, harness and everything in. making adapters and hearing how many people have trouble with timing and shit after the swap with the 2g ecu, it just seems easier in the long run. i dont think the 1g and 2g ecus have the same plugs though.

See i was wondering the same thing. The main thing i was thinking about was the check engine light coming on because of phantom knock after the sawp but when u use the 1g ecu for your 1g block i thought you would be able to wire all the sensors the same way and just cut and splice all the same wires to the 1g ECU i mean u can easyly get the wireing for each ECU from vfaq and put wires to wires... i wonder how much work that would be though... are there any sensors that are like WAY differend from the 1g block than they are from the 2g block? Would you have to run new wires from the engine compartment down to your ecu to wire them into the harness?

Why don't you just do things the easy correct way? I'm sure you *could* get a 1g ECU to work in a 2g if you really wanted to but why? I'm not sure where you've been looking to get an eprom but there's a bunch of them out there. If you can't find any on tuners, check out gopartstrader.com and type in eprom. Good luck.

ebay has a place that sells 95 eprom's pre socketed for DSMlink/TMO for 300 bucks. thats where i got mine. a little pricy but at least you know youre getting a working, quality piece.

Id say if you're going to do it this way, swap out the whole motor, ECU, and harness. that way everything matches up and there will be less confusion. then you can work out the little things.

Well, I will do a 6 bolt swap in the near future anyway so i thought it would be good to have a 1g 6bolt with a 1g ecu...... I just wanted to know if its ok since i can get my hands on a 1g '91 EPROM ecu for free right now and dont really have the $300 to just go out and buy one..... It almost looks like buying AEM's EMS would be about the same price LOL

Only problems I can forsee are emissions and the relay boxes. The 1G has 2 relay boxes and the 2G has 1. Also if you have to smog your car and it's OBDII most places now hook into the ECU to look at error codes that have been recorded and to check all the sensors to ensure that none have been tampered with and are working correctly. The 1G ECU obvously won't have that ability as OBDI is very propriatry (sp) and OBDII is standard for the most part. If you are looking for cheap and good running go with a MegaSquirt MSnS unit. You can get rid of most all the wiring under the hood, and have a nice clean engine bay. you will still maybe have emissions problems but you can tune your car for the sniffer and maybe get a "nice" mechanic to overlook some of the tests.

I'm going with the MS ECU and for smog I'm just going to ensure my VE tables are all set using target AFR to get 14.7:1.
