A few of you should remember my thread about a new IC i found on ebay made for a 1g.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239943

Well i decided to purchase it anyway since it was pretty cheap. So this weekend i started construction. See below for pictures

So to start fitment seems OK but not perfect. As you can tell i had to modify the radiator and frame to get it to fit, but that just took me 20 mins with a dremel. The IC outlets are roughly 26.5 inchs and the radiator is 27 inchs. So cutting out that bracket and the first set of fins got me almost 1.5 inchs of room to work with.

I also purchased a piping kit from ebay that should work decent.

Here is the link so the IC

I'll keep everyone posted.

The crash beam needed to be modified also (see pictures)

Took me about 2 hours and blowing up my buddies ROTO ZIP to get it done but it fits perfect now.

Note: DO NOT use a rotozip for this i got an angle grinder with a metal cut off to finish the job. Only cost me 100 bucks and it cuts perfect.

The piping should be here tuesday and i have to get some brackets welded on the IC so it wil hang properly. So hopefully it should be done by next weekend.

thats alittle scary how you had to cut the front vent for the rad. When i installed my front mount, very similiar to yours but is only 6" tall i cut the same area as you but i didn't have to cut any of the front radiator vent. Looks like a cool radiator. I wish that was around back when i did mine LOL.

I spoke with the maker of this IC today. In the future he will be making the core 1 inch wider so you do not have to modify the radiator. Also he will be making a completely different core that is 2.75 inchs thick so you do not have to modify the crash beam.

Well not to jump to far ahead of myself since none of this is written in stone, but the more i spoke with him we started talking about how we could make this into a kit. He will be sending me a piping kit so i can make 2 and send him the spare. He can then replicate the kit and start selling it. In roughly 6 weeks he should have a shipment come in of these intercoolers and possibly send me an entire kit so we can put it on my buddies car for testing purposes.

There was also talk of a group buy once the kit is completed.

I know its all a story and talk right now but i could see this turning into something.

Comments?

The guy seems really cool and willing to work with me on making a kit for this IC. I see it a really good thing, because there arent many FMIC kits for a 1g with short route piping. All the ones you can buy are at least 700 bucks which is alittle insane.

Again i'll keep you guys posted on my progess.

So the piping came in and cutting it up was SUPER easy.

2 75 degree bends

1 90 degree bend

1 90 degree coupler

the circle is where the BOV will mount

tomorrow i'm going to get the BOV welded and brackets for the IC.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Well boys and girls..........ITS DONE!

I took the pipes to get the BOV flange welded and brackets put on the IC.

As you can tell i had to get a slim fan to run the J pipe i had, but if the flange was rotated alittle i coulda stayed with my stock fan. I will be having a 2nd J pipe made so when the kit is sold the radiator fan will not have to be replaced.

Tell me what you think.

Sweet how did you end up wiring that fan? Where did you splice into? Any pics would be appreciated.

when do you think the new 1in wider core will be available?? Also how did you do your j-pipe ive been looking for one other than SBRs. Also do you think you will be able to keep your fogs with that core?

I'll post replies to all of your questions in a few hours. I'm leaving for work shortly but to give you a short run down.

The fan just wired up like the stock fan. 2 of the 4 wires go to the fan (pos and neg) the other to go to the sensor on the bottom of hte Radiator.

We will be creating a core that is 2.75 inchs thick so you wont have to mod the crash beam. It will still be a 500 cubic inch core which should still be big enough.

The J pipe was basically just a small U pipe with a flange on the end. I'll post a picture of it later.

I'm not sure when all of this will be avalible yet, but i'll keep everyone posted on that.

currently i am creating a 2nd piping set to ship back to the maker so he can replicate it and start to assemble a kit.

I'm going to say yes you should be able to keep the fogs but i'm not sure. I"ll look at the fitment to double check.

Thanks again guys

I was about to get on your case about the radiator fitment, until I realized why you did it like that (I'm tired, leave me alone.)

Looks good though, man. Nice to see an eBay core with some end tanks that have volume ;)

I'll probably buy this intercooler if he actually redesigns it. It's exactly what I'm looking for. Not having to modify the crash beam, short route, and cheap. I really like the one on extremeintercoolers.com, but it's just so expensive...

I will have more updates for everyone this weekend. We will be doing the 2nd piping kit so during the tear down i'll snap some more pictures.

So far this thing performs really good, no problems at all.

So working with the guy on the intercoolers i mentioned to him about making an upgrade for the side mount. The way i see it is some people dont want a fmic (sleeper look) and also dont need 500 - 700 cubic inchs of intercooler. After alittle searching i noticed how expensive the after market side mounts are and realized this might also be a market we could go after.

I have no dimensions yet but i would base it off the supra due to that being a common upgrade. What i've noticed about the supra on 1g's is it an be a big pain and more and more they are becoming rare items.

The "Plan" is when i send him the 2nd piping set i'm going to send him my stock side mount after doing some mock ups of what could fit in that location.

So far this could turn into something very good for the dsm community we have possibly 3 kits now

- 700 cubic inch FMIC with pipes which you have to cut the crash beam (its the one i have)
- 500 cubic inch FMIC with pipes whichs is the same as the 700 just 2.75 inchs thick so you dont have to mod the crash beam.
- XXX cubic inch side mount upgrade with pipes, obviously if you read this post you'll understand what it is.

So give me some input guys.

Hey, car looks sweet and news of the kits sounds great. Jus a suggestion so that people arent left out, you might wanna include a piping kit option that uses the 3" GM MAF sensor in the uicp for a blow thru setup. I know I will need that kit when i am ready to purchase mine. If you need to get any measurements off of my dejon uicp for the flages or the throttle body elbow jus give me a call and let me know when u wanna stop by. Glad to see that somone I knows DSM is making progress, mine still looks the same as the last time u saw it. :talon: :thumb:

I would be interested in an upgraded sidemount, I don't know about giving any input, its a little too late for that, or early one of the two.

I am very interested in one of these frount mount kits. I am just wondering when a kit will be available. I've been checking out this incooler for a couple months now but was wondering about the fitment. The wider version would be perfect.

A shipment of IC's will be coming in a few months. If you are intrested in this kit PM me and i'll setup a list of people, sorta like a pre order list.

Also a group buy would be avaliable, but PM on that me i dont want to get in any trouble posting about a group buy. :shhh:

I've been sick the past week so progess hasnt gone anywhere. I'll be working on it today.
