I am having a new issue where ECMLink isn't getting a speed reading, but my speedometer on the dash is working just fine. The code 0024 is popping up in Link without a CEL and I'm not 100% sure what the deal is.

The cable going from the transmission (Manual) isn't obscured and since the speedo is working, this tells me it must be electrical.

The 1G VSS is a magnetic reed switch in the speedometer in the cluster. Along with turning the gears for the meter and odometer the cable spins a magnet that causes the reed switch to open and close connecting the signal from the ECU to ground.

Several control units use the VSS signal and it looks like each provides a pullup resistor to 5v.

I modified my dash a while back to use a single LED strip for my custom faces and I removed all the bulbs since they were no longer required and would provide too much lighting. Didn't know if this would break the circuit if they were missing. But if it did then you would get the code anytime a light burnt out.

And my point was that if you look at the manual pages you'll see that the VSS doesn't connect to the lighting.

It's not uncommon for the switches to wear out but the first check is to measure the resistance the reed switch and that it opens and closes as you turn the speedo cable. Then make sure one side gets pulled up to +5 and the other side goes to ground.

I'll let you dig to see which connectors for the dash are the right ones since the two diagrams I posted agree on the pin numbers but not on the connectors.

Solved my unicorn DTC 0024 by putting a screw back where it belonged in the cluster💀

Still learning about these cars, always wondered what and where the reed switch is, thanks.
