me and a friend just picked up a 1g eclipse with the na 4g63. already have a turbo header and down pipe. we want to boost it but dont know how much boost to run on stock intervals. we want to try to run about 10psi. will that be possible or will we have to rebuild the motor.

I can't say exactly how much horsepower you'll gain but, it will be a big improvement. You will also have higher compression than the turbo engine so, it may pull harder than a turbo car at the same 7psi. I would definitely get a wideband installed at the same time to be safe.

I have been running my n/t bottom end with the balance shafts removed for about a year on 24psi on the b16g turbo. No problems at all but you need to have a good tune and a logger for sure. Otherwise you will for sure blow it up guarantee that.

what kid of system should we get. a piggy back or standalone. who make a good one thats easy to setup.

I would look into dsmlink but im not sure if you can get it for a n/t ecu. My personal opinion would be to set it up for a turbo ecu and just buy dsmlink.

22mm. dont know what brand though. we are going to get the piggy back or standalone for the turbo.

You're going to need the turbo water inlet tube. It has a fitting that connects the u pipe from the turbo to it. The N/T Eclipse has a different set up.

what the hell is a turbo water inlet tube. i have never heard of that before.

They are talking about the pipe that goes from the water pump, across the engine (right below the head -- exhaust side) over to the thermostat housing area. You need the one from a turbo car to hook water lines up to the turbo.

Just get a chip burner (burn2) or EPROM emulator (ostrich) from Moates.net for tuning it. It's a very effective and cheap way to tune, giving you full control of timing and fuel maps and everything else.

I wouldn't really worry about the engine. For making the engine hold up, having the right tune means a lot more than how much boost you run. Knock will wreck those pistons easier than the turbo pistons.

i thought a turbo just sits there. i never knew about a water pipe. thanks for that info. i will have to start looking for one now.

I run 10psi on 93 octane daily without even a hint of knock. I ran 17 on 110 with no problems also. I think the n/t pistons are stronger than people think to be honest

i would say a 14b and no more then 7-8 psi would be a significant gain i would imagine. stock motor should hold it as long as its not ragged out,and limpping allready.

the motor is in excellent condition. it only has 115000 miles on it. we did a full tune up on it when we drove it back from az. the old spark plugs didnt have any grime on them and they looked old. we bought it from a 60yr old man who bought it brand new. he said he gave it an oil change every 3000miles and it hood two full tune-ups throughout its life span.

were planning on getting a 2.5" exhaust piping, will that be fine or should we go for the 3". also, should we just get a stock intercooler or would it be better to get a front mount.

Depends on what you want to do. Honestly if you want to build this thing, i would just buy a tsi awd. If you want a sleeper dsm go with the 2.5 or 3, 14b turbo(post picks becuase you said you had one) and a supra side mount intercooler (for the sleeper style). Push no more than 9 psi with that and you will have fun with that car.

The piston rings will fail most of the time before anything else if supporting mods to fuel and etc. but i agree with 7lbs a friend of mine did this on stock non turbo bottom end ran fine until he turned boost up over 7lbs and the rings went smoked light a freight train then he did the the turbo bottom end but it was fun while it lasted my suggestion is to do the same buy all the supporting mods for turbo setup run it on the non turbo block while playing with that and get a 6-bolt and build away you will already have the car setup for turbo when it blows the rings swap it out with your short bock you have built then go from there on going bigger :shhh:

ill try to get some picks up here in a couple of days. the other guy is the one who drives it and funds the project, but i do all the work to it.
