Hello I have a 92 TSi FWD 5speed and all of a sudden it will not stay running. First I went through the trouble shooting and found I had a bad ecu. I got a new ecu from ModGarage and now the car starts but if i press the throttle it will try die. I tested the ISC motor and it is ok I checked for vac leaks and found nothing I am stumped.

I agree it could potentially be a boost leak. Can you drive the car at all? If so does it produce any boost? Try to provide as much information as possible describing what is happening so we can do our best to help.

I would definitely do a BLT first as that doesn't really require and large purchases.

It could also be a bad MAF which is cheap to check if you happen to have one laying around or know someone that does; when they go out or sometimes the MAF plugs' wires get messed up, loose or grimy your car will die or choke out really bad when giving it any gas - that's if it even wants to start and idle.

the car starts and idles and builds boost but if i give the throttle a quick press it will sputter and die if i gently let off if it it will stay running

fuel filter was done this summer and no boost leaks I am going to check the Maf in the morning

The car starts, idles and builds boost. However if i give the throttle a quick press the vehicle will lose R.P.M. and stall, if i gently let off the throttle the vehicle will stay running.

I hope this satisfies the site policies that are set into place.

***update***

Upon further inspection of the vehicle I looked at the ECU part numbers (old ECU vs. new ECU) I found a difference my old ecu part number is MD166260 (90-92 1G Turbo FWD) my new ecu is MD145903 (89-90 1G Turbo AWD) now from further reading on the site it seems like the 89-90 1G are different from the 91-94 1G. Now my question is does anyone know if there is a way to make the new ecu work? Or should I strip the capacitors out of the good ECU and swap them into the bad ECU ?
