I'm interested in upgrading my front brakes on my '90 awd talon. After receiving the wrong Baer kit, and reselling it; and now I want to try to find a less expensive way to upgrade.

I've been reading and doing research about Cobra calipers fitting my car. Building a kit with these are significantly cheaper. Calipers can be found for around $200, the lines are banjo fittings (RRE custom threaded to banjo lines?), the 13" rotors will also fit. I just have to make custom brackets.

Anyone have any experience, or can lead me in the right direction about getting the proper measurements for the brackets? thanks in advance.

The conversion uses the Camaro calipers, the adapter brackets are just 1/2 inch AL with 4 holes in them. here's a link http://www.galantvr4.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Board=UBB11&Number=286049&page=0&fpart=1#Post448720

I've seen a better drawing of the caliper bracket somplace, but I can't find it right now. I'm planning a conversion myself, this could be another part I offer down the road. I can make you a set if you need them but a hacksaw, drill and tap should get you there. Doesn't have to be pretty just solid.

The drawing attached is borrowed from here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185350, but this will get you started the outer holes for the new caliper will have to be moved, but the inners and the offset should be good. Double check all your hole locations before you drill. test fit everything.

Good Luck,

Ray

You will need some "centering rings" to center the rotor. The inner bore of the Cobra rotor is larger than the center bore on a DSM. They are fairly easy to make up if you have a friend with a lathe, or perhaps you can pick them up from TCE or BAER themselves.

The bracket drawing looks good. The only challenge is working out the front/back offset of that adapter.
