I have read a lot of "controversy" regarding bov venting to the atmosphere. I want to vent mine, for my own reasons, but I don't want to change from the 1g. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated, and no flaming, please.

that "elephant trunk" tube i removed? does the bov make a different sound then when it is open?
The elephant trunk is the big one, the one the MAF is connected to.... and which resembles an elephant's trunk because of the ribbing. The BOV return tube is the one you'll be moronically removing, and if you don't plug the hole it connects to, it'd be like trying to get soda through a straw with a hole in the side.

I vent and I haven't had any performance differences that I could feel, doesn't mean I didn't lose some. If you are going to vent, at least get a BOV that is designed to vent, i.e. Blitz Dual Drive BOV or the Super Sequential

so u have to plug in the return side on the intake and un hook the one on the BOV, correct?
what can u use to plug it up?

Sure it is. I know how to fix that. Let's say _you think_ is spools up quicker. The intake wouldn't know if it's vented or not on acceleration, unless your BOV is open all the time.

What do you suggest? ICS motor bugs the crap out of me and the part is 409.99 @ mitsu/dodge/chrylser parts

Also... another 1g at the track wasn't venting, and was running 13.7's 13.8's all night... then I told him, just vent. see the spool up different.

so he does... runs a 13.3 and when he came back he said, damn, it spools really quick now.

That story got boring quick. Cut to the part where you kill yourself.

Ok I just realized that the bov dump tube is causing my intake to push up on the coolant hose causing it to kink. I drove it around with the hole plugged on the intake and the bov venting and experienced no problems with idle or btwn shifts. What Im asking is what are the long term affects of venting to the atmosphere. Cause I need to for awhile I find a new dump tube thatll fit. Thanks
Andrew

I vent mine and dont have a bad idle and/or stalling but I lost a ton of gas mileage. So I guess the only real long term damage was done to my wallet seeing as how I visit the gas station more often than other drivers.

But running overly rich doesn't hurt anything, right? If you want to stand people laughing at you when you stall, etc.

Exsessive smoke.. clogging yer cat ( if ya got one ) exsessive carbon ( in combustion chamber, in exhaust system , all over turbo ) but that will take a loooong time to be an issue.. and ya i vent

YOU WONT HAVE BAD IDLE OR STALLING UNLESS YOU VENT THE STOCK BOV (or any bov that leaks at idle). Ok now that is said, yea, you can vent, just your performance and gas mileage will be affected...you know, nothing big.

yes running overlly rich does affect your engine it washes the cylinder walls and eats away the rings. Instead of me venting can anyone tell me(with a 2g) how they got their bov dump tube on their greddy type s...oh I have a dejon tool intake pipe. I dont want to vent thanks again, oh and my car doesnt stall sputter or anything...infact the car doesnt feel at all different then with it recirculated...well maybe a little les performance and it does take a bit more for the turbo to get going.

I have seen a guy that took some vaccum hose (literally, not the little hose you hook to your boost gauge, but DirtDevil vaccum hose) and just rigged it up. His worked fine and could bend any way he wanted. i had a DT Intake and it worked with the stock return tube.

Hey! Have you been under my hood or something!! I have mine set up with 1 1/8" vaccuum cleaner hose and have had no problems at all.

i vent mine and my gas mileage dropped a bit...keep your stock stuff. I just vent mine off because I am addicted to the sound haha

;). Hey, Sometimes all it takes is a little creativity to get the job done.

Well from experience I'd say it depends. Some people have no problems at all venting the BOV, while some people's cars barely run with the BOV venting. The problem is because the ECU is adding fuel for the air that your BOV is venting out, because the ECU expects the air to recirculate back into the intake instead of being vented to the atmosphere. To vent the BOV in a "proper" way (so you don't have any issues), you would have to buy a GM MAF, and a translator. But some people have no problems anyway. Side effects of running rich are decreased performance, worse gas mileage, and possibly bogging or stalling. Give it a shot I guess, it sounds like you have nothing to loose!

i just had a crazy idea but it just might work, since many of you turbo guys are addicted to that bov sound. i thought since the turbo SX RFL is the loudest mother #ucker around maybe you don't have to tottally vent it. i was thinking maybe somehow hook up a tube that would seal that horn on it and somehow custom connect it back to the intake. and if you have a k&n type filter before ur MAS, since that RFL is soo #ucking loud, you will still be able to hear that thing since ur filter is a lot less filtered then the stock one. my reason for this is because since some guys that have stock bov with the cone filter can hear there stock bov just slightly between shifts, i figure, if you use the louded bov around and do the same type of concpet of the recirculation, you will probably be the loudest recirculating bov around. tell me what you guys think ok? was just thinking about it first thing when i opened my eyes 2day. i guess most dsm guys jus wake up like that every mornin huh?:thumb:

I can hear my 1G BOV more than just faintly with a choped air can, K&N and intake silancer removed.. So how about not wasteing money trying to use a BOV not ment for that and might cause a intake leak, causeing you to run lean and fug something up.

They make a similer BOV that is ment to be recirculated. If I want a louder recirculating BOV I would just buy the right one. But thats just IMO.
