I have read a lot of "controversy" regarding bov venting to the atmosphere. I want to vent mine, for my own reasons, but I don't want to change from the 1g. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated, and no flaming, please.

For god's sake some ppl only have book smarts eh.

OK, Recirculated setups consist of a tube that takes the vented air from the BOV and routes it back into the intake pipe infront of the turbo.

Atmosphere setups just vent that air into the engine bay.

The deference? If you have a stock MAF you use recirculated becouse the stock ECU has no damn clue you just stupidly vented the air into the atmosphere and thinks it is still in the intake. So it add's what would have been the correct amount of fuel if the air WAS still in the intake which it is not and makes a very rich mix & no power.

When it is recirculated the air stays in the intake and thus the correct air/fuel ratio is reached. (or close to it anyway)

The only way to vent to the atmosphere without the car dieing and loseing power in shifts is to use some other form of measureing the air comeing into you engine. Either a blow though GM MAFT setup or a VPC. There may be another way but thoughs are the two most widely used.

That is all for class today.

When vented, besides losing the measured air volume, you're drawing in unmeasured air through the BOV any time you're under boost. Dirty, dusty, gritty, unmetered, engine-heated air.

It is bad.

Just a correction, venting is bad on the stock MAS'ed intake system, but this is information does not apply if one is using any sort of aftermarket blow off valve (be it the Greddy series, the HKS, the Blitz units, etc).

I am sorry but I have to chime in here, I have been here for quite some time now, and as you will notice don't have alot of posts, why you ask? Because I know how to search and find 99.9% of the answers I am looking for in the search, or at the VFAQ, however it is nice to get some fresh opinions on some topics, I like to post just to see if you guys are still paying attention and to make sure you haven't forgottom all your DSM knowledge:) So what I am saying here is you guys are harsh. . LOL, But I love ya all anyway, also I'm in Michigan and it is really cold here, but my DSM LOOOOOOVES it:)

Doh, make that under _vacuum_.

Assuming you are running a converted GM MAFT set after the turbo...then what would the benifits/disadvantages be?

i just installed the GReddy type BOV and we've adjusted the screw form all the way soft to all the way hard and when you shift, left off the excelarator, it flutters in stead of the wooosh. any sugestions or knowledge of why its doing that?????

The above statement is true for 1g BOVs. 1g BOVs open slightly under vacuum during idle, which is why you have to put a filter on it if you run it vented and are metering air after it. My tial, as well as other aftermarket BOVs, do not open during idle.

Will this work alright, it says this BOV vents to both the intake and the atmosphere??? Won't this still make a rich air/fuel mixture??? Here's the link to the page and it's the 6th one down. Link
Sorry if this is too newbie.

So it will run richer than normal but not as rich as if it was just vented to the atmosphere???

What kind of side effects would I have, would I sputter, kill the car, or what???

it will run a little richer between shifts

its up to you are you more rice or more race, its not something i would buy.

if you really like the rice sound and wanna race the greddy type s sounds pretty ricey when you vent to the intake.... but if you insist on this other one thats fine too

If you wanna vent get yourself a MAFT/Gm Maf and youll be set. I've just ordered one for my car.

Hey.... I know its a stupid question.....

But is there anyway I can dump to Atmoshpere...

I know its bad for boost resons. But I want more noise.... Any tips or tricks or something custom I could make that would allow me to get this without the VeinPressure Computer!

Thankz You,
Kendel

It has been talked about alot. if you want more noise you can get a aftermarket bov like gredy or hks. When i vented mine if i reved in neutral by the 3 time i rev the car stalls out.

If you dump the stock BOV, the car will hardly run at all. An aftermarket BOV will allow you the car to at least drive, but you'll run rich in between shifts and your revs will fall faster.

I would highly suggest you upgrade your upper intercooler pipe before you vent. I tried venting with my stock UICP with my greddy and it was shabby. I upgraded my UICP and now it works beautiful.

the news is the same here. i have my type-s vented with the intercooler piping kit from greddy. works great, no weird idle or anything, my car does run rich, especially between shifts. @ 15psi

ive been venting on my 1g bov for a while and it runs fine and boosts hard....when u mean runs rich in between shifts....could this be why when i shift hard my car bogs a lil bit. I got a dejon tool uicp...and it vents fine, but i also vented on my stock piping and it ran great then too.

Ive heard that some cars it will effect them and others its just fine.
