1G 1G BOV crushing

I hate to break it to ya......But the reasons for modifying a 1G BOV have been chewed on for YEARS!!!!

How to do it has been HASHED for YEARS.

But being the nice guy I am I will let YOU in on it.

The 1G bov is a great, stock Bypass valve. Its aluminum body and cast steel cap, make it a very durable piece. It can also be polished to yield a very decent shine., so not to look as -stock-, but more blingy.

The downfall of the 1G Bov is this: It was originally intended to never see over 15 psi.

For you to understand how to make it hold more boost than this......it would require me to type for the next 30 minutes......so here is the link to save me time....:

La 1G BOV es una excelente válvula de bypass de fábrica. Su cuerpo de aluminio y tapa de acero fundido la convierten en una pieza muy duradera. También se puede pulir para lograr un brillo excelente, para que no parezca de fábrica, sino más llamativa.

La desventaja del 1G Bov es la siguiente: originalmente estaba pensado para no superar nunca las 15 psi.

Now that I’m seeing this again it gives me an idea. Maybe somebody else has already thought of this or tried it, but what if you tee’d off the line between a manual boost controller and the watergate actuator and used that as a source for the lower half of the BOV? The lower half would see less pressure than in the stock configuration so the BOV would hold more boost, but it would be more than atmospheric so it would still help the BOV react quickly. Would be much simpler than a switch and solenoid. Is my thinking correct or am I overlooking something that makes this idea unworkable?

Cool idea. But, It would not work. You'd lose the quick release function when not at full boost. Because the manual boost controller remains closed until you reach target boost. When it does open up the full boost will be pushing on the bov diaphram where you dont want it to.

The best option by far, is do the dodge mod. And then plumb in a brand name MAC 35 series 3 port valve/solenoid. From a local pnuematic valve parts store or hardware store. Dont get knockoffs from amazon or ebay theyre trash. Then you just get a little 15psi pressure switch. Tap that into a boost source like the bov pipe. And voila. Below 15psi you have quick release function. Then anywhere over 15psi the pressure switch is activated. Which grounds out the solenoid closing the boost port. And simultaneously opens the vent port, venting the bov diaphram to the atmosphere for high boost. Like this➡️

Most of us have had crushed and uncrushed stock bov's hold 15+ lbs. On the stock bov flange, it's drill two holes to use a greddy/ ngr bov. It's not a ballin on a budget or " stock" upgrade but it's also an option.
