Resolved 1G - Automatic seatbelt stopped working

My passenger side seat belt stopped working a while back and I cannot seem to fix it. Today I tried putting in another motor and rail, this still did not fix the problem. My fuse is good, I don't believe there are separate fuses for each seat belt, just one for both of them.

Today I noticed this wire that was not connected behind the motor (circled in red) is this of any importance? I cannot seem to find anywhere it would connect to. I would appreciate any help with this, it's very annoying for passengers to get in my car and the seat belt not move for them

hmmm i just pulled mine out but I do not remember if that plug was there or not. id have to inspect and get back to you. was that plug unplugged when you took the original rail assembly out?

Yeah it was already unplugged when I pulled out the original motor/rail assembly

I know this doesn't not answer your question, but have you tried calling Mitsubishi? I have a 1990 Acura Integra, and the drivers side automatic belt stopped working, and I called Acura to have it replaced. Safety related things, especially seat belts have a lifetime warranty with Acura, so they replaced the entire system for free. Worth a shot to call...

Well the thing is I replaced the motor and the rail that runs across the top of the door where the seat belt slides across. I think that pretty much is the entire system. I did read on another forum that there's a switch somewhere around the door or inside the door that triggers the seat belt to move when the door closes?.. Can anyone verify this?

I would just take it to mitsubishi. They have to fix it for free. Seat belts always have a lifetime warrenty

Actually I may have found the problem, that wire connection I was asking about goes to a switch that lets the car know when the door is shut. You guys probably know what I'm talking about, there's a rubber thing at the bottom of the door jam, when the door shuts it presses against it and hits the switch (which attaches to the wire) Looks like my switch is missing and that's why my wire and connector is just dangling in there.

...However there is a good chance I could be wrong and it's just for the dome light, but I'll get it fixed and post an update

Seems reasonable. The system has to have a way to know what position the door is in.

So I grabbed a couple of door switches at my local salvage yard, apparently there are two kinds, one with a single wire (green) and another with two wires (green & yellow) not sure what the difference is but I tried them both. I installed the switch shut and opened the door... aaaand nothing My seat belt still wouldn't do anything.

This problem is driving me nuts, I'm running out solutions to try I would take it to a Mitsubishi dealer, but unfortunately there aren't any around here

UPDATE - I just found this discussion on the subject Power Seat Belt ..I'm going to try what rhohan72 said on his last post there. I'll post an update later with the results

I finally figured it out! My passenger seat belt works now Apparently I had a bad sensor inside the door, it's located next to the door lock mechanism, it tells the seat belt when the door is completely shut. It was a real pain in the a** to replace this thing because it requires taking all the door locking pieces out! (and reinstalling them of course)

I posted a couple pictures so you know exactly what I'm talking about. Hope this helps people out in the future who end up with the same problem.

Thanks so much for this thread and follow up! I has a similar problem on my rebuild project and found the previous owner had unplugged this sensor. Trivial problem— IF you can find it!!

Heads up, if you don't want to pull the entire latch assembly to test out the switch, the FSM has a testing procedure for it. Posting pics below.

I plan on using this procedure myself to diagnose why my belts aren't working and this is the first place I'm gonna start. You could also just jump pins 1 and 3 (or 2 and 3 if they won't retract)on the harness connector with the key on and see if the belts automatically work. Or use a multimeter. Either way.
