Ok so when I first got the car a friend put the driver window control on the passenger window controll harness to roll down his window while I was pumping gas, then down the road it started smoking and caught on fire... After that my left blinker was always on, even if I turned the right one on. I took it to my mechanic and he said he just wired around the short so he didn't have to take off the dash.

Then yesterday I needed to hook up my ac thing in my center console so I could use a power inverter. The factory positive wire wasn't hot, but there was a hot wire undone coming off some sort of alarm siren, so I used that and just hooked it to a cord that was already running right down there to the positive connection on the cig lighter thing. Then my left blinker doesn't work at all but the right works fine. Also even when they were both working they blinked twice as fast as usual.

So how do I find a short or begin to figure this out?

#1 You don't have to take the dash out to fix an electrical issue although it would be easier.

#2 Your mechanic band-aided the situation and did not rectify the short which is a big issue for fire. (I'm assuming he didn't seeing as you didn't say otherwise)

#3 The only proper way to troubleshoot your situation is to start at the passenger window control module and trace back the wiring harness. (You can do individual wires but it will be MUCH longer and to get you at the right "region" following the harness will work)

#4 Once you find a problem area, (stripped wires, melted loom, broken wires) stop and note the wire colors and location. If you do not have a Factory Service Manual, re-post with the info and I'll see what I can do to help out.

This is going to be tedious work but in the end you will be glad you did it as you will get a better understanding and knowledge of what goes where in terms of your wiring harness.
