How’s it going, I have a 98 Eclipse GST 5 speed and it was running fine till I went to drive home a few hours later. It had a rough idle and low idle and when giving it more throttle made it choppy as well. Putting it into neutral, the RPM’s would drop all the way down and the motor would die.

Trying to figure out if this is a fuel related symptom or a boost leak or something else.

It was doing this after sitting for a few hours and now is has a low idle on cold start which it didn’t have before. I am new to these cars.

New plugs/wires
New IAC
New fuel filter
New air filter

It’s mainly stock with a 164k miles, supposedly has a 16g not sure the brand
Has no over heating problems or CELs. Had one code P1105 fuel pressure solenoid circuit awhile ago but hasn’t come on since.

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

The oil in the plug valley is from the oil cap

Im talking about the oil leaking from the edges of the valve cover onto the thermostat housing and turbo

Seems like its running fine. Have you taken off the heat shield to make sure the exhaust manifold isn't cracked
Yea I’m going to do the valve cover gasket here soon and I should of added that that’s a brand new oil cap.
For the intercooler pipes, I’m guessing I would have to get a different BOV since the HKS fits the stock plastic hose and the metal ones have a 2 hole flange type

Save your money and look for a Greddy to HKS adapter instead. I checked and there are several out there for as low as $20 but Im not familiar with the HKS bov models to know exactly which one you would need (if it even matters because im sure theyre all the same)but here is an example. If it doesnt come with a gasket then just use some rtv and screw it down.

click for Greddy to HKS adapter

do you know how to stop the oil cap from leaking? ive tried relacing the gascet and the cap ive even double stacked and that didnt work, oem cap..im thinkin its something to do with my pcv system but im not for sure

On 3 out of 4 of my cars the factory cap does not leak.

The 3rd car had lower compression on cylinder 2 and high crank case pressure. On that car I put rtv on the base of the rubber seal and to the oil cap and valve cover. Still had a little every once in a while

ive tried double stacking oil cap gaskets and it blew the oil cap apart, like literally turned the metal insert into houdini an vanished luckily didnt go in my cylinder head

You may have a tired motor causing too much blow by. A leaking oil cap is common as well as a cracked valve cover.

However blowing your oil cap apart is not. I would run a leak down test before proceeding any further.

I would try replacing your pcv valve first, if that doesnt help you can try drilling a couple of holes in the baffling next to the breather to make pressure go out a little quicker.

But yeah if the pcv valve doesnt help then you may have a lot of blow by going into the crank case

I replaced the fuel pressure solenoid MD113721 on the firewall, that seems to have fixed my issue but I will have to have a good drive first to see if it really did. I’m going to get a new VC, I see some chips and the ignition wire cover thread holes are cracked as well so I’m sure there’s a crack I somewhere I haven’t found. The gasket looks fine on the OEM oil cap

I checked your post history and you do not have the same car as the original poster of this thread. Most likely this thread will be split into its own thread

You say your car isnt running right and you are not sure what to do next?
What have you done to start? These cars are over 20 years old, what parts have you replaced to make sure the car runs good? Have you ever replaced parts in the owners manual for the cars current mileage? Or are you a beginner who has never worked on cars before

I have done this much - changed plugs, wires, coil ignition, gas circulation air vale.
That's what I can do now I'm looking to find a mechanic that can find the issue. I'm trying to see if a Mitsubishi service dealer is willing to look at it.

Please start a new thread so that your particular issue can be addressed. But before that click on this link https://www.dsmtuners.com/dsm-profiles and then on the "Add new vehicle" button. Filling out the particular model of car that you have and any parts that are on the vehicle will help in determining possible issues. Continuing to post on this thread takes away from resolving the OP's issues. We can probably help steer you in the right direction, just need to keep separate issues isolated to their own threads.
