I'm looking to buy a Turbo back exhaust for a 97' GSX Auto. The car is a daily driver and will eventually see high hp numbers as it can while being streetable. The car will be built in stages of horspower and it wont see a big build all at once. So, I want to make sure I get the best turbo back pre made exhaust i can buy. I looked at a company called VRS and it looked like a very nice exhaust but I wanted to see if there were better options before buying it.

Next thing I need to know is if I should go 2.5 inch or 3 inch? How much power can be made on 2.5 inch? 500whp is a possible end goal and I dont want to ever switch the exhaust out after buying this one.

Next thing the exhaust needs to do is be as quiet as possible while helping get to the power goal. Not trying to wake the neighbors.

Thanks, sorry for being a noob. ROFL

So the 2.5 inch to the flex pipe is not good then, also it doesnt come with a o2 housing. the g-power is cheaper because of this.

The VRS exhaust comes with the cat, and extra resonator installed for quietness, and I'm pretty sure since the VRS is a true turbo back that it comes with a new o2 housing to match the rest of the exhaust.

I don't know, but all of the turbobacks I've seen have a DP and catback. Some come with test pipes for a cat delete, some come with 3" high-flow cats, some are just catless. But in everything I've seen the DP starts at the O2 outlet. If you're looking for a single unit all the way from the turbine housing, that's probably a bit tougher, because different turbos have different flanges, and it'd be tough for a vendor to carry all of the common options, especially given internal/external hotsides. If you want a 3" O2, you need to buy a 3" O2.

And 2.5" from the O2 to the flex is pretty common. It's not "bad", but it's not a "full" 3" turboback. For $300 with testimonials from DSM customers who've actually bought one, it's the best deal I've seen yet. That's why I got it. I'll probably post a review when all is said and done.

True, the G-Power doesn't come with an o2 housing. Having the 2.5" until the flex section isn't a bad thing because you couldn't put a 3" flanged downpipe on a stock o2 housing, so they neck it down to fit like stock. Every downpipe I have ever seen for stock-style o2 housings has the 2.5" neck down. Apex'i, Megan Racing, whoever... Also, if you look at the pictures provided on the eBay page, the G-Power has two resonators built into it, not just one like the other exhaust you were mentioning. As I mentioned before, the exhaust they show on the eBay page is 100% EXACTLY what you get.

Here are pictures of the exhaust. I even notated the parts on the 2nd picture:

Thanks a lot SonySlave! I had my exhaust all picked out: VRS 2.5" downpipe, stock cat, and than Megan Racing 3" Catback. Now I have a hard decision on if I should just go ahead and get this G-Power Exhaust instead. Great...LOL It really works out great since it comes with that adapter to go onto the stock cat. Now on a serious note: the 2 resonators should make this exhaust a bit quieter than the MR Catback right? Im sorry if it seems like im hijacking but will help with anyone trying to decide b/t this exhaust and another.

My Megan Racing downpipe does not neck down at all. It's 3" from the O2 housing flange to the flex section to the rear flange, all the way. There's a slight pinch at the O2 housing end, but maybe only .1" or .2" or so.

I have the full 3" megan racing dp and cat back for my gsx and I love it. It is 3" right from the O2 not 2.5 then 3. I got my whole exhaust system for 545 shipped. It only has 2 bends and they would the the 90* bend on the dp and the 45* at the tail for the muffler to come out at the side. I would highly recommend it and also is comes with a silencer that can be put in the muffler or removed. As for emmisions, where Im from all they do is hook up the computer to the OBD port for all 95+ vehicles so no cat=OK.

SonySlave thanks for pointing me out on this thread. Any other comments, reviews, pics on that turboback would be appreciated. So everything bolted up fine? Came with gaskets and such. It has the bung hole :D for the o2 sensor?

from rre

Why start out at 2 1/2"? If you are running on the stock O2 sensor housing, even ported it is 2 1/2" inside diameter. When the exhaust gasses are hot, they flow better, 2 1/2" is plenty for the first 12". As the gasses cool , bigger helps. By going to 3" after the flex section, we allow this expansion and also allow for better clearance at the front where room is tight.

Just saw from the Megan thread, their downpipe for the GSX is 3" all the way, even before the flex.

As a daily, I like the 2 resonators on the g-power and its significantly cheaper. Both great affordable choices depending on what you want/need more.

so, what is the performance difference with a 2.5 inch dp compared to the 3 inch dp? Minimal?

hi, will this fit a 1999 eclipse GST or spyder gst ?

The setup I have is: Ebay catback (japanimportshop) and Megan DP. The japanimportshop catback is imo the best Ebay catback. It fit with absolutely NO problems. It sounds awesome! FULL Stainless Steel (thats even better than Apex-i's partial mild steel) And did I mention it fits perfect??

The only problem is that it includes a removable reducer that is 2in long. So when installing the Megan DP (or any DP), you must get 2" welded on to make up for the removal of the reducer.

This is one of the cheapest options around. $250 shipped for catback and $160 shipped for Megan Downpipe. You can't beat $400 for a TRUE 3" turbo-back. Also, the Megan Downpipe is a straight shot, hardly any bends. The one shown basically has a 2.5" downpipe, which defeats the purpose of 3". So for roughly $100 more you get significantly better flow.

I think the Thermal Reserch 3" cat-back or the megan racing cat-back are the best, even going custom will be good too. But my choices have always been those particular 2.:dsm:

There's a huge difference between a 2.5 turboback and a 3" "flexback" ;) with a 2.5" dp. The backpressure in the exhaust is proportional to the length of the exhaust at that size, so having 10 feet of 3" and 3 feet of 2.5" is much better than 13 feet of 2.5". I agree that full 3" should have less backpressure, but "defeats the purpose" is overly critical. If you're pushing 400whp, you'd definitely want a full 3", but if you're more like 300hp, I'm not sure if you'll see much of a performance hit with the 2.5" dp+flex. And the G-Power exhaust bolts on perfectly, requires no welding, and costs $299 shipped. And all of them have the cheezy 4"-5" tips (my opinion, folks ;)), so the cost of fixing that is the same. My $0.02

Well I've decided to go with VRS with an extra resonator, 3 inch high flow cat for legality and the o2 eliminator. Seems to be the most complete that i wont have to hack up to make the way i want. All those other options are good for people that dont mind all the extra welding.

Well now that you found what your looking for, hope everything goes well, try and get some pics up after.:thumb:

Is there a website or link that anyone has for the G force exhaust? Looks like a good deal but i can find it anywhere on Ebay.
