I've searched and realize that there are two different ECU's for the 1995 and the 1997. If I purchase a 1995 420A will I need the 1995 ECU to run it properly in a 1997 GS?

Thanks,

B

Your question is unclear...

You need a '95 ECU for a '95 chassis, wire harness and sensors.
If you put a '95 block into a '97 car, with a '97 wire harness and sensors, you'll need a '97 ECU.

you more or less answered my question.

I have located a 95 engine and wanted to install it into my 97 GS. From what I've gathered, everything will be ok due to the engine being installed in the 97 eclipse.

Either way. Whatever 420A you install into your 2GNT, you will use the sensors and electronics that came with your car. If the sensor on the donor motor shares the same connector as the original harness - bonus. You'll have a possible spare.

Thanks for the reply...I'm looking forward to getting this thing out of my garage after 2 years of sitting!

Hi only thing you will need to change are the crank sensor and the water temp sensors on the block, ive swapped a 95 engine in a 98 and as far as i remember thats the only thing i changed out

ok i understand to put a 95 motor in to a 98 you need to change a few things .now suppose you were putting a 98 motor into a 95 .........does the same hold true or is this swap more difficult?

If you're only referring to the motor, you shouldn't have to change anything, assuming your just swapping out your old motor (which has your old harness). I mean the electrical changed over the time period correct? So the 420a block holds the same... please correct me if im wrong, but I am speaking about the block and not the ecu, harness or sensors from the actual vehicle.

Im pretty much repeating what the dr. said, but I want to make it clear (for myself as well) that the dr. is referring to the sensors that may be different. If your harness and sensors are fine, then there should be no reason to swap ecu's or harnesses because you're only changing the motor itself.
