first off im not a noob to dsm's i had a 95 gsx with over 15k into it and am pretty knowlegible of most of the dsm world ..HOWEVER i have which seems like a very basic and easy to answer question but i can not find it anywhere..

I just purchased a 1994 tsi awd and it has a blown engine.. im probably going to go the rebuild route but for craps and giggles im looking into dsm classifieds and ebay engines.. MY QUESTION IS.. 1994 tsi are 7 bolts correct ? is that the same 7 bolt thats in the 95-99 ? or is it a combo of both in a sense of port sizes and cams in the head and in the lower end as far as big rods and what not .. if im looking on ebay for instance am i looking to any 7 bolt ? or certain 7 bolts .. again i know this is basic and i mihgt seem like im new to this but its my first 1g and im lost when it comes to this 94 7 bolt engine thing..

PLEASE HELP .. thanks in advance..

anyone quick answer ??

Yes you are correct the 94 is a 7 bolt. All the dsm 7 bolt year engines are the same. Meaning the short block and heads are the same.

so its 2g head with the snaller ports and it has 2g rods and pistons?

so i could take a 4g63 out of a 99 and it will be the same exact engine..

Yes he was incorrect in saying that all 7 bolt engines are the same. The only major changes from the 1g 6 bolt to the 1g 7 bolt were: different oil sprayers, lightened pistons and rods, and of course a seven bolt crankshaft to attach to the flywheel. It wasn't until the 2g 7 bolts came out in 1995 that they had the 2g heads with the smaller intake runners, higher compression pistons, and all the other 2g changes. The 1g 7 bolts are different from the 2g 7 bolt engines.
