Hey guys I am not very experienced in dsm engines but I have a 1.8 dsm from 1994 I'm not sure whats going on with it but I was driving and I parked it all of a sudden it started to shake violently and shut off it just a bad oil pump so I've had to keep putting oil in it not sure what's going on .
Things I've tried
Spark plugs and wires
Oil level is good
I've asked some friends they say that the oil pump can cause it to jump timing

I'm not trying to modify it at the moment just need it running.

How do you know the oil pump is bad? Does the oil pressure idiot light work (should come on when ignition is turned on, then go out almost immediately when it cranks.)

Usually that light is a bit conservative -- if it's working (as shown by coming on when starting) and it's not on when running then you have enough oil pressure for safety.

What engine do you have? There's a couple of different 1.8L engines -- 4g93 which has the oil pump on the crankshaft so it could not cause a timing jump and the 4g37 (I think? I'm not really up on 1G although I have some of those engines in other cars) which could have it elsewhere and driven by s sprocket which could possibly do so, though that seems very unlikely.

Have you started the engine again since it quit? If so, what happened?

I have the 4g37 and yes the idiot light does work it never shuts off. To be honest I'm not sure about the oil pump I was told it was bad because it's leaking I believe it's just the gasket but the guy told me it's the pump, the dealership I got it from didn't know anything about it
