So this morning my car was running great then at the stop light it just died. Now it wont start, its acting like its not getting fuel but I have gas and fuel pumps kicking on... Any ideas would help greatly. Im kinda thinking clogged fuel filter.

Timing belts good but theres a little check valve at the end of the fuel rail like on the tires and i pushed it in to check the pressure and fuel came out dirty for a second then lost pressure. Someone just showed me that valve this morning never new the car had it either

That valve is there on most vehicles that are EFI.

Easy way to check if you have fuel pressure at the rail. Now you need to make sure its getting to the cylinders. Then you need to check spark and compression. If you have all those, check that your timing hasn't jumped.

If all that checks out good then post back with your results and we can start tracking the problem down from there. But without that info we can't really do much for you except guess.

The only ways that I know of to check injectors is to turn the engine over. Are you (Anubis) implying that this person should crank over his engine before checking timing? :nono:

Check timing first, it takes a 10mm socket and a whole 3 minutes maybe? :thumb:

I didn't imply anything. I listed items that needed to be checked in no particular order. And i said that we needed all that info or we couldn't help him because it sounded like he was brushing it off like it wasn't important.

Had i felt that he should be wearing a helmet to bed i probably would have taken the time to list the order they need checked and explain why.

It could be your ECU... It went out when I was driving and literally shut off on the freeway... It wouldn't even roll start.

Mine was a 1g. I'm not sure if the 2g's do the same thing, but a small indicator to check for a healthy ECU is that the stock boost gauge will "zero" itself out when the key will flip to on... At least, for a 1g that is.

id check timing first you dont want to damage the motor.

then id check for spark and id also check my injectors.

when u turn the car to the on positiion does the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT remain lit?

Check your power transistor plug, it's located in front of your intake mani, sometimes they vibrate loose and if it comes loose a little bit your car will shut off. It will turn over properly but won't "fire up"

Hmmmm..... I noticed noone else has suggested this so im going got ahead and throw it out there as well. It could be an alternator problem. At any time you were driving; did you happen to see a battery light come on?? since you mentioned that your car died once your came into a stop which is when your car has a higher chance of turning off due to an altenator going out.

This is probably because he can still turn the car over. Can't do that without power. When my alternator went, I was completely unable to turn the car over as my car was actually running off my battery. Plus his battery/brake light would have come on...I'm sure he would have seen/mentioned that.

I'm not sure how "sudden" his car stopped working to be honest. Sudden to me is when I was making a right hand turn and my car died. Turned out to be a short and my ignition fuse blew. This is why I mentioned fuses. Could also be a plug though.

I hope you didn't hear any metallic noises. I was in neutral rolling to a stop at a long light and my car just shut off. I had a little pop though. The car would turn over but wouldn't start. I finally got a CEL which referred me to a really small sensor that helps with timing and is absolutely needed in 2G's: the crank angle sensor!!! It walked and fubar'd everything and lead me to a re-build.

When you pressed the check valve and the fuel came out dirty makes me say change your fuel filter. Or at the very least, take it off and blow through it to see if its clogged or not.

Well guys I got in running last night it was a clogged fuel pump. I have alot of rust particles in the bottom of my tank and running it down to E must have sucked rust through the pump and filter and I replaced both and now shes running great.:hellyeah: But thank guys for yalls opinion, yall a big help.

Great news! When i had a mysterious die and no start on a 1g I couldnt even catch a code on my pocket logger. Did it several times. Turned out to be a bad ecu. Glad yours was simpler,, and likely less expensive.

Ya for sure man. I need to clean my tank this weekend for sure before I have to buy another pump again unless its just the strainer getting clogged no clue. But what do any of yall think about removing the tank and putting a fuel cell in?! Just a thought any ideas or inputs appreciated:thumb:

Glad to hear you resolved your problem. I once removed a fuel pump from a 1g and it was COVERED in mildew i didn't understand how it happened as it was a brand new pump 2 days old, it didn't make any sense but it was what it was, i never thought it was the issue.

Merry xmas to you guys too:hellyeah: My pump was new too maybe a month or 2 old so I wasnt expecting that especially hearing it kick on but those filters can only take so much before that junked up LOL but your right it is what it is

Happy your found the problem. Is the car running well now? You should consider aftermarket parts like aeromotive and such. My friend has an aeromotive fuel filter and it works really well, the filters are also replaceable inside the housings which are also attractive if your into looks.
