ugh my favorite dsm, the 1ga Eclipse gsx. Body looks to be in phenomenal shape! It's been a while since I've seen that grey leather interior. Look forward to the progress on this one.

Thanks. The "progress" on this one, since I have a few, will be trying to keep her stock or stockish and RUNNING. I got a timing belt kit with it but no OEM tensioner so that needs to be done. She feels very good and I'm not used to "instant" spool. Loving it and working to make her a reliable car.

It is nice. I have other DSMs to go eat Muscle with .
The man took the cruise control off but she still has A/C (yet to be tested). I have the cruise off of another car if I want it.
Drove her today and she seems to want the clutch bled. I can deal with that. It has a rich mix going on too and no wideband to tell me whats up but I can chase stuff around and figure out why. Drives very nice for a 30 yr old car. I found the CTS had a wire broken off so fixed that and he has fans wired into the A/C so I will address that also.
I went to buy wiper blades tonight and this car still has the original frames that screw to the arm. The parts store was baffled LOL.
Updates as they come about :thumb:
    Thanks for following along!

Please go in depth when you address the fans being wired into the a/c. Previous owner on my car replaced the driver side fan with an aftermarket factory replacement, but when plugging it into the factory harness, it will not kick on at all and doesn't activate when turning the A/C on. So he hacked up an extension cord wire and hardwired it to the battery with a switch to manually turn on. Its awful.

I got my hands on an OEM fan, and I'm hoping plugging it in to the factory harness works as it should. Otherwise I wouldn't even know where to begin to chase that issue down.

I can lead you thru it. If I get a few minutes, I will give some more direction as to how your fans SHOULD be wired.
    OK.......
The passenger fan will go to the sensor in the bottom of your radiator, which, when it gets HOT will connect internally and ground that fan, turning it on. They are both always hot and come on with a ground.
The Drivers side fan will plug into the connector over by the PS reservoir and will come on with the A/C on and the inside fan turned on.
My guy wired BOTH fans to the A/C connector so I have to REMEMBER to turn the A/C on for the fans to work. I am going to rewire them (they are aftermarket, don't know why he didn't keep the OEM fans, they are much better) so that they function correctly and I don't have to manually notice the temps and turn them on.
Both fans use the square connectors. I swapped my Spal setup out of my 90 and into my 92 and plugged it right in, then it started blowing fuses. Turns out that a 1990 has the connector wired opposite of a 91+ so I had to swap that connector to work with the 92.
    Dam bastard child 90's!!!

Oof that sounds like a mess. I agree with sticking with the oem fans when you still can.

So to be clear are you stating that the drivers side fan should also kick on when HOT like the passenger fan does? Or does the driver side fan ONLY kick on when turning on the a/c?

Drivers side only comes on with the A/C.
Passenger side comes on automatically or you can have a switch that grounds the fan and turns it on manually.
The sensor in the bottom passenger side of the radiator is what activates it.

Mine has leather seats too, and torn the same way. I’m likely to get one or both reupholstered, but $950 a pop. Ouch! Is your rear seat also grey leather (vinyl). Mine is fabric, I suspect from some donor by a previous owner. My door panels do have the grey vinyl, though, so pretty sure the seats are stock. Are you leaving yours be, or plan to restore/replace?

Leaving be for now. All Leather interior but a different design than my 90 Laser has in it, which is grey leather also, just different designs.
$950 is a lot. I haven't asked a upholstery shop about them but probably will sometime in the future. It is a pretty clean car once we got it all put back together.
    Thanks for following along!

Well I had to mod something....so what is the FIRST THING A LOT OF US TELL OTHERS TO DO?????
    ECMLink V3 FTW!!!
We tuned her because she has GREEN injectors in her and was running rich.
Does anyone know what GREEN injectors are? I have a limited background on this car.
Threw in my spare Link 90 computer.

    Love it!!!!!

Yeah, I think most dsm owners think of $1800 in terms of how much faster the car could go, not nice seat covers. Over half the cost is just the leather. One of the few mods I have discovered on my is a short shift kit, but the one in your photo is like "extra"-short shift! It barely rises above the console.
My interior is so disassembled right now that it's nice just to see one whole. Inspiring! Thanks.

I had to throw my link computer in, she was running rich and has some green top injectors. It all turned out stock on link but we did some tweaking and will play some more in the future :)

Well, it is time for the timing belt, adjuster, pulleys and water pump (and some other super secret stuff), so I pulled the ole gal into the shop and got her up on TDC. Had to try twice because something just wasn't right. What I have found is....well glad I found it. The balancer is on TDC in this pic..... 20191104_155155.jpg
Someone has been in her before because I can read the number 167 on the belt and that is the Gates #.
It appears to be 2 teeth off on the exhaust. It is definitely not correct. I hope I have just saved her life!
Stay tuned! Lotsa fun to come!

Love the build thread! My 90 also has the grey leather and I love it personally, but it clearly didn’t hold up as well as the factory cloth seats as those always seem to be in great shape in old dsm’s, I’d like to get mine re upholstered one day, after I finish my million horsepower build of course LOL

I have just sent mine to be reupholstered in factory-matching leather. Might be a few months till I get them back, but I will send some photos when I do. As for the misaligned cam timing shown above, makes me wonder what other surprises await you. I've found plenty in mine, often leaving me scratching my head, and saying "WHY?!!". Getting the two sprockets lined up should have been the "easy" part to verify. Fastener torque and many other parts of proper assembly cannot be detected visually. This drives me crazy, and is a source of my mechanical addiction: have to take more apart so I can put it right....
    Spendy but fun!

Well it was a surprise, as it was an old mans car before the young guy I got it from bought it and it was supposedly an unmolested car, but hey, it needed some good attention anyway. I have lots of "extra" go fast parts so she will be getting her share of the "leftovers" OMG
I appreciate you guys following along!

Well guys and gals, sure as hell, the car was running with the exhaust cam 2 teeth off. I have all the front covers off and everything is ligned up fine below but someone has DEFINITELY been in here before as it has the replacement idler pulley, not the original 1990 one and its sloppy so its been awhile. Belt is tight so it hasn't jumped. They tried hard but.....well not everyone was meant to work on and understand a DSM.
Pictures are what everyone wants to see.
I'll be putting the HKS 264/272s in along with FIC 1120s and my FP mani/16g set up while it is apart. Hate for the "excess stock" to just sit around, so now the secret parts list is out. The VRSF FMIC will be going on also.
Just so everyone knows, this car drove around town and into the shop just like this!
I couldn't tell it was off, just low on power and I figured that I was just used to my HX40 power. NOPE.
I am looking for a weird, come and go noise or rattle if you will and haven't found anything yet but the noise was in the front timing area which is why the car is tore down in the 1st place.
    FUN
    FUN
    FUN
    :)

We worship the DSM gods as we leave a project with a blessing of good fortune! :)
That is my shop, at my house, that I had built last year. 30x40x12. We put the lighting, plumbing and lift in ourselves.
THAT is a blessing right there, a nice shop!!! :thumb: (its a bit messy but my sons and I WORK in it, we don't have parties and play cards, LOL)

Yeah that is really nice. 30 x 40 is twice the floor area of a 3-car garage. It looks like it is insulated too.
How much vertical space do you need for the lift? What make and model is the lift? Is it working pretty well?

I have 12' ceilings, no ceiling in it but that is the height of the rafters. My best friend built his at the same time, same shop but different orientation on his door. He was going 10' high but I mentioned we didn't want to push a car thru the ceiling so he went 12' also. His is spotless, and a party place. Mine is a work area!
It was a "Pole Barn Kit" from the lumber yard for $13,000 plus labor/cement/misc (another 10k).
Here is the lift I have and he has and they work wonderfully. Very minimal assembly, most is pre-assembled. Just secure it to the level floor

For that price, you almost can't pass it up if you have room.
