ok i recently bought a straight line specialties upper intercooler pipe kit for non abs cars, so when i went to put it on i noticed it didnt fit and the cruise control box was in the way, well my question is if i can remove it and put it on the firewall somewhere so it wont interfer with the upper i/c pipe, if so is there a write up on it because i seached and came up empty handed. Any advice will help a lot thanks!

i think on sls's site it says for 91-94 years, if you have abs pick the abs pipe, if you dont, pick the non abs pipe, and for the 90 year model, if you have cruise control, pick the abs pipe, and if you dont have cruise control, pick the non abs.

you should see if they will let you return it for an abs pipe, but double check that im right about that first.

to remove the cruise control you need the non cruise cable. the part number is floating around here somewhere. if you just want to remount the box you shouldnt have a problem as long as you dont kink the cable.

You can swap to the 91- cruise control which mounts on the firewall however, you will need to drill and tap holes in the firewall to mount it. If you want to remove it just go to the junkyard and pick up a non cruise cable from a 1.8l for $10.

dude, this whole time i was wondering why that huge metal thing was needed on the throttle cable at all, it looked like it just reverted the cable back the way it came. always made me mad. im surprised it never dawned on me that that was the cruise control. how much would a 91 box cost? ehhh i dont really need the space as my fmic is already on the car and theres enough space right now.

Did you have any problems with it clearing the corner of your battery? I'm asking because I recently ordered a non-ABS pipe from them as well and it looks like I may have problems with the straight designed UICP.

thanks...

well it did clear my battery but there is no way in hell that it would clear the cruise control box at all, when you mean get a non cruise cable , can i on bolt the cruise control box then just take out the cruise cable? im kinda confusied on what to do when i get the non cruise cable WTF

Not a problem thats what most of us are here for. Let me know what you find out when you look into it. I'm curious now as to why we had decided it wasn't going to work or would have just been easier to swap it over.

Yeah, it's a pain. Have to route the throttle cables past the UICP... so far an over/under approach seems to work the best.

Really though, IS there any way to simply remount the stock 90 CC box to the firewall, for us cheap bastards? :D Looks like it'll take some wedging/rearrangement to fit, is all... more precisely, has anyone done it successfully? I'd rather keep my CC for long trips up and down the coast, as well as an anti-leadfoot. ;)

Notice how where the throttle cable come through the fire wall it's pointing towards the passenger side and not the drivers side like it does stock? And it still uses the factory guides that are bolted to the fuel rail. So basically you just need to have it go counter clockwise instead of clockwise like stock. I can't say if the stock line used for cruise control will reach but this is how you would have to route it if it will.

do you think i could leave the cruise cable where it is in the firewall and just remove my throttle cable and put the cruise cable into the tb instead? It seems like it would work, i ran a search on cruise control removal and i read so many post but came up short
