16g turbo

Mitsubishi puts those there for a reason. Block them off if you want tho.

You can, I'm sure it will cause it to prematurely wear out a lot faster than running it how it is supposed to be which is with coolant lines. They wouldn't be there if they weren't needed...

I agree with what has been said but if you decide to do it you should allow it to idle a little bit longer before turning it off after boosting.

The coolant lines in addition to the oil lines help cool the turbo quicker, thus elimiating the need for the turbo timer on these types of turbos. (Since we all know when people buy a new car, they would never let the car idle and cool down before shutting it off. Its lucky to get oil changes.)

I'd keep them.

Well I bought the turbo from a friend. He couldn't find the coolent line so he told me I Could block the coolent lines off I just need to get a turbo timer.

Don't try to outsmart engineers. They put them there for a reason... I would suggest getting one ordered if you don't have one.

do you have a 7 bolt or a 6 bolt setup? that way we can tell you the exact location of the lines its alot cheaper than a turbo timer

I 100% agree that you should use the coolant lines if you can, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Ball bearing GT turbos do require coolant no matter what due to the tiny amount of oil they receive; you don't necessarily need to run coolant to a journal bearing turbo.

Many people including myself have ran them with lines. In some situations it is easier, like if you have a 6 bolt in a 2g with a 2g head you won't even have a spot to feed water to the turbo, so it's easier to just not run them.

You can use your stock turbos coolant lines. I have used the T25 coolant lines on my 16g. Just get new 14mm copper crush washers. You also dont need coolant lines at all, a turbo timer or simply getting in the habit of letting your car idle for a min or two before shut down after a hard pull you will be fine. So you have options. Either way works. I dont water cool none of my turbos anymore though.

Many turbochargers, especially the larger frame ones, are not water cooled. The water is mainly to cool the turbo before shutdown and to provide a heat sink after the engine has been shut off. Like mentioned before, your everyday daily driver would not let the car cool down for a minute before turning it off. To reduce the coking inside the CHRA from hot shut down, they are water cooled.

My 1990 TSi AWD had a "Warning: This vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger" label on the visor that had instructions on how to shut down the car. Pretty cool actually. I'm not sure why they quit putting those labels in DSM's.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of this label? My 14 does not have coolant lines. The shop that did my swap didn't tell me my water pipe had the nipples jb welded shut. Where would one get a new water pipe for a 6 bolt? I have a greddy TT that I picked up at a junkyard for $8 so I'm not to worried.

I do not. I actually just searched for it and found nothing but joke stickers. I could have sworn it was stock, it was sewn in like the airbag warnings. And it was definitely the stock visor.

To get a new water pipe I would suggest looking in the classifieds. But like many are saying in this thread, the water lines are not 100% needed. The JB weld isn't a good idea so I would have them welded shut properly, but other than that you would be just fine running no water to the turbo.
