here is my dilemma... im getting a stock 6bolt that im going to put in my car, and the mechanic i had that was going to do it no longer wants to do it because he things that the turbo i have will make it blow. and i have a friend of mine who works on DSM's who said that a stock motor can handle what im going to put on the car. so that brings me here... i need advice... im just gunna be adding a front mount, a 16g turbo headers and an intake... nothing crazy.. can the stock motor handle it?!:confused::confused::confused:

You should search, but those mods are extremely mild, as long as you keep boost reasonable you're fine. You can not run more than 15psi if you don't upgrade your fuel system as well.

First off you dont have turbo Headers. You have a single turbo manifold which is all you need for the 16g anyway. Like others have said if you really want to get some boost out of that turbo you will need some fuel and tuning upgrades otherwise youll be stuck at 14 or 15 psi. And your friend is right 15 psi on a 6bolt is a joke it will hold that easily. Other than arp head studs your good for 20+psi as long as you have the fuel to go with it. Oh and since you havent installed it yet go ahead and get yourself a bigger downpipe as well as an evo III o2 housing and manifold.

That mechanic is probably just trying to cover his butt.

There's too many people out there that are irresponsible and when the car blows up, they come back throwing a fit and blaming it on the shop, when in reality it was the owner that decided to.. say..run too much boost without fuel support.

Will the engine handle it? In short, yes, with proper support. But don't sit there and tell me for one second that you'll be satisfied at 11psi.... the itch for more will get to you... and it is this "itch" that the mechanic is probably trying to protect himself from.

Yes the engine will be fine. The mods you listed will make you about as fast as a stock car. You don't want to increase boost without fuel mods and gauges to monitor what's happening and a way to tune the car, datalogging... Some people say just turn it up to 14-15psi and you'll be fine. Every engine is different so some might have knock at that boost, some might not. Some might hit fuel cut, some mgiht not. Every car is different. If all you plan to do is put on a 16g turbo and run wastegate pressure, front mount intercooler, manifold, and intake, your car will not be much faster than it was stock. If you want to go faster, you can spend much less than what a manifold, 16g, and FMIC would cost and go much faster.

you will be fine i know many people running 16g's on stock motor i myself am running a 14b ( smaller turbo) at 20psi with fuel mods with no issues on stock 7bolt with 140k on it with 155 compression across board

with those mods you should be golden because my dsm mechanic which has been working on dsm's for over 10 years has a stock 6 bolt with a 20g running 22psi and he's been running it like that for years and so far no problem but personally i wouldn't go over 16psi defiantly if you don't have a wideband, as a side note make sure your compression is good because if it's not your engine could blow with high boost like my friends did and make sure you have at least 190 or 255 fuel pump with a regulator. right now im running 12psi with a stock 6 bolt with a 14b and never had a problem :thumb:

A variant of the 16G came stock on the evo 3 and that had, not exactly, but essentially the same motor. Don't go nuts with your boost level, have the proper fuel system modifications, do a little bit of tuning and it will be fine.

thanks everyone, i believe i have a walbro 195 or 190 fuel pump, not sure if it has a regulator or not. but after reading everyones feedback i feel confident that i can pull this off, just got to keep in check on my boost level and tune it correctly, but i can do that when i dyno it right? then get fuel mods down the road.
