I have come into possession of a s16g. I've actually had it for a while but was told it was a T25 and never looked at it. While working on the car this weekend I decided to check it out. The wheels are hard to turn but do spin. The compressor wheel does not touch the housing, but it really looks like the shaft isn't spinning straight. Not sure if it's bent or could the cartridge be borked and cause this?

So here's where my question comes in. Do I transfer the exhaust housing over to my 14b for a free upgrade or do I look at repairing the s16g?

swap it over and in the mean time fix the 16g then throw it on

If it's a small16g then it only has a 6cm housing.

Put some oil in through the feed on the small16g and see if it spins a little better. The bearings might just be dry from sitting for so long.

It has a 7cm housing. I'll try the oil today, I'm just curious about the shaft...

To my knowledge, Wes, any DSM 16G comes from the factory with a 7cm turbine housing. Using a 6cm housing on a Small 16G is a great option for a low boost daily driver (under 20psi) or on a car with an auto trans because the turbo is much more responsive.

See if the exhaust housing on tight enough.
It's currently off as I started to disassemble it yesterday. When it was on, I could not turn the compressor wheel with my finger. It was much harder to split th housings on it than on my 14b.

Playing with it yesterday showed that it was tight in certain spots of the revolution and spun okay through the rest.

Wish I could explain the 'twisting' look of the nut, but I'm just not sure how to convey it. The nut looks like it's moving from one side to the other yet the wheel doesn't wobble or touch the housing...If I can find some circlip pliers I'll find out more tonight.

Ah. My bad. And yes, it's nice and responsive. Too bad I broke a bolt off in the housing again this weekend. The bolt hole in my housing is all f'd up from trying to drill out a 10.9 bolt.

Got it taken apart this evening. Looks like the shaft has a slight bend to it. :(

Question now is can I use the exhaust wheel from the 14b? The wheels are the same size are they not?

They are the same; if you don't want to fool with used parts I know where you can get your hands on a new turbine at a very good price. ;)
