Hey ,
So im pretty excited for the season to come up in about two months to run my talon I bought this winter,
I was wondering what I would have the most improvements out of...Im budgeted...but looking to do the right thing...
Stock 14b Turbo,Stock Mani,Stock SMIC,Rebuild has 30k, New Pistons,Rods,Lifters.
A) Get Dsmlink,Wideband Guage,650 injectors,wally 250
B) FMIC,Wally 250
Id like to run my 14 @ 16-17
Ive been looking and it seems like there is a lot of people that would suggest a FMIC is the first step to a right build, however going through the forums I see kids post they ran a mid 12 with a 14b and smic on corn fuel with a right tune.....
Any suggestions please :banghead::banghead:

If you plan to stay near 16-17 psi stock 450's and rewired stock fuel pump would be sufficient. Since you live in ohio and running low boost id say stock smic should do alright too. You will still need a wideband, a real boost gauge, and something to tune with.
 
I have AFM boost guage, and controller, and timer; Soo your for Fuel Mang/Tune because of the weather conditions
 
It is suggested by many of us on tuners that you do not need to run a front mount intercooler until you upgrade to a larger turbo. If anything, the front mount intercooler will just cause more turbo lag. Your car came factory with a side mount for a reason. There are many cases where people made decent power just off of the side mount. There are other things that you can do for first modifications rather than that that will benefit you more.
 
At only 14-17 psi on a 14b, the fuel upgrades and tuning will do far more for you then a fmic. You won't really ever need a front mount running near stock boost so you might as well get ECMlink, fuel mods, and wideband. Those are probably the most beneficial early mods you can buy. Oh, and don't forget to get an afpr when you upgrade to a Walbro 255.
 
Depending on how hard of driving he does will determine the need for a larger intercooler or not. It's all about heat soak. If anything I would say just go to the larger Supra sidemount and you won't have cooling issues that you might get with the stock SMIC.

A 190lph pump will be fine for you as well or even the Evo pump and neither will require a AFPR as the 255 should have.

The main things you want are ECMLink, injectors, wideband, and the pump.

I agree except for the pump and injectors. You can run 20lbs on a rewired stock pump and 22lbs on stock 450's at 100%idc. The 14b maxes at about 22lbs. Just a hair dryer after that.

1. Upgrade fuel pump
2. Upgrade injectors to 750 or higher
3. buy DSM LINK or SAFC or equvalent.
4.Buy metal fuel filter and run E85
5. Tune
6. Enjoy your 13s or better on the 1/4 :)

You do NOT want to be anywhere near 100%IDC >80% is where you want to be. Where are you even getting the information on the 450s being able to support that much?

450cc @ 100% IDC will support 32.30lbs/min
450cc @ 80% IDC will support 25.84lbs/min


The 14b flow 405cfm = 32.6835 lb/min at 15psi compressor airflow. That's already 100% IDC which is not allowing the injectors to pulse correctly but instead of staying open. He needs to upgrade to be at or below 80% IDC.

the 1g fuel pump doesn't flow as much as the 2g pump, so you're best off upgrading to a 190lph pump:

if you're doing a budget build, I doubt you will outflow 190lph, and sticking with a 190lph pump will allow you to run the stock fuel pressure regulator.

you say budget build but don't specify how small the budget is... if your budget is really limited, I'd suggest looking into alcohol/meth injection, as that would allow you to put off fuel mods for a bit and help cool your compressed air similar to a front mount. something to think about...

Nice copy and paste answers you found there. but the 14b does not flow 32lbs at 15psi. Maxed out it flows 405cfm which is around 22-23psi. Pretty fail post for a "wisemen". Sure you dont want to be at 100%idc on a large turbo because of the risk of spiking and running lean, but no worries of that on a 14b at 23psi. Sure its harder on them running full out but someone running 23lbs on a 14b are aware of the risks already.

Yea my example was to show what they are capable of. He is only looking to run 16-17psi on a 14b. You guys saying upgrade your entire fuel system or run 750's or higher clearly did not read the op's post or are just talking out your ass.
