Went to a junkyard with a buddy today... I was looking around lo-and-behold I seen like a 90 gsx. Almost everything is there, manifold, turbo, downpipe... I dunno what all I can use off this car, but I would like to know. They told me $50 for the turbo, its been sitting outside for a long time, so I'm going to need to rebuild it. I know there are alot of 14b in the searches, I just need to know what all of this car I can use... cause I'm going to take it all. The head is off the block, its just sitting there. Maybe I should see what the want for the whole motor? There's about 2 inch of water in the cylinders... its been there for a while. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Sorry for double post, didn't realize I was in newbie forum earlier.

Well, it sure ain't advanced.

Eh, stuff that sits out in a junkyard is usually pretty crapped out. If you picked up that motor you'd have to have it bored out however deep the rust goes. As for the turbo, that can be rebuilt for fairly cheap. Make sure you grab the water lines and either get a SS oil feed line, or take one from the GSX. The manifold that is on your car now is better than the 1g, same with the o2. Another worthy upgrade would be the 1g BOV and the 1G tb. I wouldn't bother swapping heads/intake manifolds unless your head is damaged or broken.

If it's in good condition, then yes. The 1G head flows better stock vs. stock than a 2G.

Most blocks are rebuildable unless they are just that far out of spec on the crank bearings or something but I'd take all I could afford. Trans and all if possible. Post it and sell anything you dont use or can use. Just my .02

Its pretty rusty, but i think it might be able to be cleaned up... have to take a better look in the day.

Depends on the condition...my mechanic charges me $100 for a full head rebuild and valve job, so if you can buy the head for say $50-75 and put $100 work into it you might get somethin out of it. I'm assuming its a MT seeing as it has a 14b on it, so the cams are a bit better than 2g cams...forgot to list that. Again, i wouldn't bother swapping them out unless you had to do a timing belt job or something of that nature, as it is a pain to get the timing belt off. 1g MT cams and gears go on ebay for around $45-50ish..so if they are in good condition and you can pick them up for cheap that might be worth it. Or you could hang on to them for the next time you do a timing belt job.

Actually I'm just going to *barrow* everything I want, since he basically tells you to go out and get the stuff yourself. I'm getting the turbo, head, intake man. and tb so far. I don't think the hoses are on it, can't remember, but i'll look. :x

I've rebuilt heads before, and my dad is a mechanic so i'm not too worried about that.

Also, the inlet...errr whatever you want to call it, this:

Is really coked up, restricted, I might do some porting on it.

Well shoot, if your dad can rebuild heads than I'd say go for it. I've seen good rebuilt 1g turbo heads go for over $200 on eBay. Once you get that turbo apart you can get some good practice porting on it, and if you mess up...oh well, your only out $40. Good deal :thumb:

why dont you just take the whole motor and slowly but surly build it up for a nice little 6-bolt swap.

Thats what I was thinking... but I don't have the money to get the whole thing. I think I'll take the top end, then come back in like a mo. and offer like 30$ for the bottom end since its only half a motor :D

I was at the junkyard 2 days ago and saw a Laser RS. Saw the TD05 markings on the turbo. BOV was gone, along with the IC, and intake.

I was quoted $150 for the 192,000mile 14b FROM THE JUNKYARD! I laughed and walked away. What a day.

Well, I walked away also. I looked on the back of the housing, and it was cracked all the way down to the oil line back to the pan. (only after I tried to take it off for an hour..) I was heartbroke :x
