2G 12 PSI VS 16 PSI

OK so I just installed a boost gauge and with just an air intake im at 12-13 PSI. So my question is if I go to 16 PSI will I see noticeable gains? And another question can my stock bov handle that PSI?

I'm not defending anything or anyone- I'm simply stating that you're not going to achieve a solid 16psi without an upgraded blow off valve no matter what turbo you're running...and if you're still on the stock T25, you could greatly benefit from a stronger wastegate actuator if you want the boost level to stay up as the RPM's climb and backpressure in the turbine housing / exhaust system increases.

You should notice some gains. The question is what kind of gains are you expecting? I have heard of people trusting stock BOV and wastegates. I wouldn't but hey you can try it and see what your BOV does.

Out of everything I have read I havent seen anybody talk about the waste gait. Ive read a 1g bov is a good idea but i cant find anything on how much psi a stock 2g bov can handle.. And what gains can 1 expect from going up to 16?

Are you looking to run a particular time or are you trying to race someone? It's hard to say what you can expect. You should always gain something when you turn up boost in the turbo's efficiency range. The gains are dependent on other variables of course. Me personally I would just slowly turn up the boost and see what the car does. It's not like you are trying to run 24 psi.

...and what I'm telling you is that you'll never make anything over 13-14psi because the junk plastic 2G blow off valve can't handle it.

Replace that with a 1G valve and an adapter and you'll see a spike of 16psi right when peak boost level if first reached, but that will tank back down to 11-12psi as the RPMs near redline because the weak stock actuator can't pull the flapper closed once it's open thanks to a tiny turbine wheel and housing on the TB2566 creating excessive backpressure.

So what would you recommend as far as the waste gate goes? What should I look for? In the mail I have a 3" down pipe, cat back and a boost controller. I'll go ahead and buy a 1g bov as well.

You could test your bov with a boost leak test. But the stock plastic bov will leak past 13-14 psi

I would look into getting a 1g bov, a wide band and a logger before you start messing with boost. Even though its only low boost its still nice to know how you car is running

Update your profile with a current list of modifications. How do you expect to get accurate advice about gains when we know nothing about your car? Do you even have the supporting mods to run 16 pounds of boost?

I've read many threads stating you don't need any mods. I've read that the stock fp and injectors are fine for a t25 at 16psi. Im going to find everything I've read and post links so you guys can see.

On a 2g you can run a evo 9 blow off valve. From my experience the old rubber hoses started leaking. Also you will hit fuel cut past 15 psi. I would set a goal first for power. I blew my head gasket at 18 psi on my t28 so keep that in mind. You have a long way before you can start making real power. I would start with exhaust intake.

Well I'm not doing this for a couple weeks or so. I have a down pipe and catback coming soon. A mbc. And now I finally have a 1g bov getting shipped out tomorrow. And I just want my DD to have a little more power for when I meet ricers at a red light.

Don't forget the 1g bov flange is different than the 2g's. You will either need a adapter or new upper ic pipe with 1g bov flange. Like the classic Dave Brody uicp!! I still have one of his actaully !

Well, it sounds like you've already read everything you need to know. Why the hell are you here asking for advice when you already know better?

You've already been told the 2g plastic BOV is junk and good for maybe 14 PSI (I've seen them leak at 10).

You were told to run a 1G BOV you'll need an adapter. That's a fact.

I'm telling you running 16 PSI in a stock T25, stock SMIC, and 390cc injectors is retarded/pointless without some supporting mods.

Are you familiar with the term "DSM mentality"?

You want to improve performance, start by taking care of maintenance. Timing belt, spark plugs, wires, fuel and air filters, BLT, fluids, blah blah blah.

Prepare to sink tons of time, money and work into your project. Use common sense and listen to the feedback you're given. Otherwise, you'll be selling, parting or towing that bi*** down the road in the near future.

Such trying to learn as much as I can man. I'm not disagreeing with anything you all have said. It almost seems like with all the 2 cents around here you hear both right and wrong answers. I'm not looking to make a race car I'm just looking to make my car a bit faster without spending a grand. I've read so much the last few days my gf is getting mad at me ignoring her all day . Just have to be careful who you listen to bro! You can make your car way faster for under a grand bro. That's the nice thing about dsm's! Just have to know what mods to do and what not to do. Spend your money right, buy used parts off here if and when you can. Just watch out who the seller is and if they are legit! Think about the future alittle and the things you can get now that won't have to be upgraded again. Take some time to learn about your car and make sure it's maintained properly. The rest is up to you and what mods you do and in what order. There's a lot more to think about when adding more boost. If not done in the right way or properly monitored. Things can go BOOM quick! Best thing you can do is get tuning software (ecmlink) and learn to use it!
