Well the car roadsurge shift box reset itself twice on me. The first time Wednesday it revved to 10k rpm and damaged the flex pate. I had one over nighted and got the car running friday for the track to get it dialed in for IFO. Well the first pass I made my best 1/8 mile pass with the car.

The 2nd pass the shift box reset itself to 1st gear when I was going down the track in 2nd gear at 9k revving it to 11,600 rpms. The car slammed into the floor causing the sparks you see in the video. Not sure of the damage to the motor/tranny yet but its not looking good. My car will not be at IFO to say the least LOL

That sucks dude, Funny, one of the reasons Iv been advocating auto trans is to prevent the dreaded 1-2-3-2 shuffle that one of my local DSMer's keeps doing with a syncro manual trans. Betting not let him see this video!

Seriously, that's some pretty hardcore electronics failure! condolences to your mechanicals.

WTF. Seriously.I would ask Tim whats going on.

So what happened then.It basically rest and downshifted into first?

yup. When the box resets it goes to 1st. Even when I get the car running again Im not sure what Im going to do about this situation I dont want to keep breaking parts till it works LOL. I may go in another direction all together. Something with downshift protection at least,

If I recall correctly, the box Shawn @ ForcedFour makes defaults to off/off 3rd gear when it resets and you have to manually put it down to first gear after it is shut off.

He hasnt released the programable one yet. Ive asked him about it. I have no TCU so I need something that can shift it automatically at the track and also shift it normal driving.

I went into first once at 10mph, and I thought my trans was going to drop. Never at no 9k rpms.

Ended up chirping the tires even.

There has to be something wrong with the electronics in the box. Or maybe this is an isolated incident, and you keep getting bad boxes..

I see no shift box on fp's website.

This is the 2nd time it did this is the few days the car has been running. Its a roadsurge shift box with a digital delay rpm switch. I bought this off a member on link who it seemed figured out this setup and had it running well.

why not go with a ratchet shifter?

Im new to the auto game..Do you have a link to one? I dont want to manually shift it though at the track

not about this problem. It just happened yesterday. I will give him a call monday. I have been trying to figure out what the damage was to the motor before I started to mess with the electronics problems.

I have done 2-3-2 in a 5 speed which didn't turn out good. I am not running a tcu either and just have mine wired up via kigglymanumatic so I just control shifting by moving the shifter.

Maybe you'll be lucky and there won't be much damage.

I had 3rd wound out and shifted down to 2nd before I got solid shifter cable bushings. A rocker arm popped off and put a hole in the valve cover. I found a few dime-sized pieces of the valve cover after removing it, just sitting in there along with the rocker arm. Removed the lifter, bled it, put everything back in place and it was good to go. I've got a built block and freshly rebuilt stock tranny and that's all the damage it did.

we'll see. The car did start but didnt stay running after this happened. The head looks ok and I dont think there are any bent rods. Piston #4 might be damaged though. I have to take it out and check. I might just get new rods bolts and bearings anyways while its apart to be safe. This eagle/wiesco motor has been through a lot and is hanging in there.

Man this is scary, I've always liked having an Auto, especially at the track where I wouldn't have to shift it manually, but this is not good, I wonder why the box keeps resetting on you.

I can't remember which shift box I was reading about on the link forums that is coming out soon or is probably out now that has the down shift protection, Might be something to look into.

Hope you get her fixed man, not a fun situation at all.

Ya I'm not sure I'm going to call road surge Monday morning. Forcedfour is coming out with something from the link forums but has not released it yet.

That blows.

I would rip that thing out of my car and burn it. Unless Tim is going to make it default a different way I would touch it, although I wouldn't use it anyway.

Go kiggly mod and if you don't want that the forcedfour box looks to be the bees knees or program TCU.

I have a programmed TCU and I love it, but my car is more of a cruiser than race car.

How hard is it to put a tcu in the car? I want the forcedfour box but it's not available yet last time I checked. I pmed him on link and he said he has like 45 people already asking for one. Im gonna call Tim Monday and tell him about what happened and see if there's anything I can do to the box to make sure this doesn't happen again. Or I'll just go with another way of shifting.
